It is with great sorrow that we inform you of a tragic incident involving the apparent drowning death of a 15-year-old CIT (Counselor in Training) at Owasippe’s Camp Blackhawk on July 16th.
No other campers or staff were involved or were in danger at any time.
Emergency protocols were followed, law enforcement was called to the scene, and Council leadership and camp staff are cooperating in the ongoing investigation.
We are also taking appropriate measures, including providing grief counseling, in support of the family, campers, and camp staff.
Please join us in supportive thoughts for the family, fellow campers, staff, and our extended Scouting family.

Jeff Isaac, Scout Executive

Local Councils were informed on specific steps forward following the nation-wide stand-down of Range and Target Activities, initiated by an incident at an out-of- state Scouting America property. Each local council was required to have their Scout Executive review certain specific Range & Target Activity policies, as well as complete and sign a certification form in order to resume Range and Target Activities.

Pathway to Adventure Council took immediate steps of fulfill this obligation and the certification form has been received by the National Range & Target Activities Committee as of May 30, 2025. Pathway to Adventure Council ranges are now open for Scouting Programs including Day Camp, Betz Family Camp, and Owasippe Scout Reservation.

Again, thank you for your continued patience and support as we all work together for a SAFE Scouting Program.
