Thirty-eight thousand homes and businesses in Gary, Indiana, went two weeks without power and scarce food resources after a powerful storm swept through on August 11.

“I knew that I had to go into action to do something,” Rijenna Murray said. “I didn’t know what I can do. I didn’t know where the money was coming from. I wasn’t sure how we were going to be able to do it.”

It is with a saddened heart that we announce the passing of Gary Burns, former Lake Union communication director and Herald editor. He died at 73, afer a long illness.

Burns served the Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 40 years as a pastor, Native Ministries leader, prayer coordinator, communicator and more.
