The Bernardsville PBA would like to express our sincere gratitude to the members of the Bernardsville Law Enforcement Foundation who sponsored a family night at a recent Somerset Patriots game. Members and their families got to enjoy the game with members of the foundation.

The Bernardsville Law Enforcement Foundation seeks to provide support to local law enforcement by offering education, training, equipment, and technology that will help reduce crime, increase officer safety, and improve community relations. Their goal is to help law enforcement officers protect and serve the citizens of the Bernardsville community.

This evening, two Newark, NJ police officers were shot in the line of duty. One of those officers paid the ultimate sacrifice. The other officer was critically injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those officers, their families and friends, and the whole Newark Police Department.

Night Shift Officers Sgt. Richard, Ofc. Cowan, and Ofc. Minardi stopped by a lemonade stand on Mullens Lane at closing time for a refreshing drink to start their shift.

The stand was built by the children (with some help from their parents) and the funds raised are being donated to the Penn State/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) that benefits the Penn State Children’s Hospital.

They plan to continue operations after school and on weekends.

As you watch this series, please remember that neither the NJ State PBA nor any of its local associations uses telemarketing as a means of fund raising.

Unfortunately, some groups continue selling shields, cards and stickers using this inherently deceptive marketing scheme.
This series carries a harsh warning for the public and a close look at the dark side of fundraising.

The State PBA places great value on the positive relationship we have with the citizens of New Jersey. We also work vigorously to protect the reputation and credibility of Law Enforcement, even against the shameful actions of Law Enforcement groups who utilize telemarketing.

We urge all residents to decline requests for donations made by telemarketers. It is common knowledge that the majority of the money collected goes into the pockets of the telemarketers, not to the so-called charity. Supporting the Police has nothing to do with making donations under duress.

Residents should contact their local law enforcement agency if they feel that they have received a suspicious or harassing phone call from a telemarketer. Complaints regarding telemarketers may also be made to the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs at 800-242-5846.
