October is Youth Substance Use Prevention Month — a reminder that prevention starts with connection, conversation, and the information our kids need to make healthy choices.
Most kids don’t drink, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have the conversation with our teens and college-aged kids.
As they enter new chapters of independence, talking openly about alcohol can help them make safer choices and protect their health and well-being.
Use this graphic as a conversation starter. Talk about what a standard drink actually looks like, how alcohol can affect the body and judgment, and why understanding alcohol content and serving sizes matters.
Most importantly, keep the conversation going. Let your kids know they can come to you with questions, concerns, or situations involving alcohol — no judgment, just support.
This Youth Substance Use Prevention Month, make time for the conversations that matter.
Prevention starts with you.
Start the conversation. Stay connected. Keep them safe.
