A new piece from the Associated Press takes a look at the next step in agrivoltaics: grazing cattle on solar sites.

While sheep grazing is already well established, this project points to what could be next for the industry as work is done to scale up operations and overcome site design challenges. As ASGA Senior Director Kevin Richardson puts it: “Once we have that, I think we’ll see more solar sites using cattle or multi-species grazing with sheep and cattle.”

From improving land use to creating new opportunities for farmers, it’s another example of how solar grazing continues to expand.

We’re proud to see ASGA President Chad Raines featured in The Bully Pulpit!
Chad’s story highlights the real-world impact of solar grazing, turning a challenge into a path toward stability, regeneration, and long-term opportunity for his family farm in West Texas. What began as a search for survival has grown into a thriving operation that’s restoring soil health, supporting biodiversity, and keeping land in agricultural production.

As Chad puts it: “We are doing so much more than keeping the grass down with the sheep; we are healing the land.”

We’re proud to see Ely Valdez featured in the San Antonio Express-News article, “Renewable energy is a 'second opportunity' for some rural Texans.”

Ely’s story highlights the real-world impact of solar grazing, turning uncertainty in traditional agriculture into long-term opportunity. What started as a small flock of sheep has grown into a thriving operation supporting thousands of acres across multiple states, all while helping maintain working lands.

As Ely puts it: “It’s a second opportunity for all of us… it really has changed the industry, and I think we’re going in the right direction.”

His experience is a powerful example of how agrivoltaics can support farmers, strengthen rural economies, and keep land in production for generations to come.
