Hello! My name is Jocelyn (she/her), and I am a fourth-year studying MCB! This year, I am placed at Chinese Progressive Association (CPA), where I will be supporting the Youth MOJO Program to help foster the next generation of community organizers! I am really excited to grow outside of my comfort zone and become more proactive in making a change in communities resembling mine. Coming from a Taiwanese immigrant family and growing up in San Jose, I resonated with Youth MOJO’s mission and wanted the members to have a more progressive perspective on the world than I did when I was younger. I want to use my identity to inspire my work in helping the youth members, and I am really grateful that I can make this kind of impact through MOVE. Outside of MOVE, I like doing artsy activities (drawing, crocheting, etc.) and going on long walks!

Hi! I’m Sira! I’m majoring in MCB with hopes of becoming a pharmacist or PA. I have two cats with me here at Berkeley and do nails as a fun side business! This year, I’ll be working with New Light Wellness to support underserved Southeast Asian communities impacted by deportation across borders and across seas through nurturing trust, collective healing, and reunification.
Our organization supports the 1.5 generation, many of whom have been impacted by the traumas of war and resettled into a U.S. system that can leave them vulnerable to the school-to-prison-to-deportation pipeline.
I’m especially grateful to MOVE for introducing me to the civil rights side of this work and helping me better understand the systems that impact the communities I hope to serve!

Hello everyone! My name is Star (she/they) and I am a senior here at UC Berkeley, majoring in English and minoring in Public Policy. This year, I’ll be working with South Bay Youth Changemakers (SBYC) an organization that focuses around empowering local Asian American teens within the San Jose area to become more politically active within their communities and providing them with the tools to community organize. I am excited to help support these youths in developing their unique voices as they affect change within their city and to expand upon my own knowledge of community building in order to make organizing not only a career, but a foundational aspect of my life. Outside of that, I love going to concerts, spending all day at the beach, reading, and playing trivia/logic games!

Hi, I’m Sofia! I’m a 4th year studying Rhetoric and Linguistics. I grew in Long Beach, CA and I have roots in Nuku’alofa, Tonga. This semester I have the honor of working with the Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants (CERI) in the East Bay.

My previous experience organizing has been through Suitcase Clinic, a student-led organization dedicated to providing necessary resources to unhoused communities in Berkeley and Oakland. To me, community organizing is vital for saving lives and supporting a community’s path to success by ensuring access to emotional networks, providing material resources, and connecting multiple generations to their histories and futures. Therefore, I am excited to support CERI’s Unbreakable Roots program to aid in securing rights, protection, and healing for immigrant and refugee families against the unfair and oppressive legal system.

In my free time, you can find me outside touching grass, failing at a handstand, and performatively reading. Buuuut my day one hobbies (and true loves) are anything musical — dancing, singing, and playing instruments!
