Mothership HackerMoms

Mothership HackerMoms This is your playground. We are a small cooperative founded in 2012 by and for creative mothers and our families. Ever!

Mothership HackerMoms is the first-ever women’s creative life lab for mothers, and we define motherhood broadly to include all LGBTQ+ mothers. Our community is dedicated to emotionally supporting our members who sustain creative lives. We hold each other up during the constant transitions we experience personally and with our family. Our dynamic organization changes priorities and programming base

d on current members, what our interests are and how old our kids are. We explore various arts, entrepreneurship, hacker and maker culture and welcome all sorts of passionate people. Since the pandemic, we primarily convene virtually and have expanded our Failure Club offerings as a result. Failure Club is the most popular offering at Mothership Hackermoms because it represents community, support, collaboration and the messiness that goes with pursuing our own passions while also being a parent. We gather weekly to embrace failure and move through personal goals surrounded by kickass people who support, motivate and help us show up even when we fail. Our space on the Berkeley/Oakland border is exclusively for those who are vaccinated and boostered, with some rare exceptions for public events. Our space is kid friendly but largely focused on our adult members who get 24/7 access and a key. Go to https://hackermoms.org for more information on events, open houses and to schedule an appointment. We're proud to be the first women's hackerspace.

"Making Space for Big Feelings - How to Navigate Challenging Emotions During Difficult Times"

There is power in living through change, through challenges, in working with our fears and uncertainties and in making space for the ugliest, most difficult truths. When we feel discomfort in our bodies and witness our emotions, and when we name them, we get to see ourselves through a compassionate lens. But showing up for ourselves, we get to contribute to our own healing and participate in the healing of others. In this workshop, we'll have an opportunity to check in with ourselves and our bodies. What emotions are we arriving with, and how do we know? Participants will have an opportunity to share their stories with the collective. A meditation on working with difficult emotions will be offered. We will make space for our experiences following the meditation through a creative journaling exercise. Participants will break into groups and have an opportunity to share with each other and listen to one another through conscious listening practices. As caretakers, learning how to connect with our own embodied emotions can be a powerful tool as we navigate raising families and demanding jobs, while showing up for our communities during this political climate.

Sunday May 25 1-3pm
"Listening to the Deep Yearning Within - A Storytelling Workshop"

When we take our time to reflect on our evolution, we get to honor our stories in a deeper, more intentional way. In a world that continually remains fast paced and technology driven, how do we return to rituals rooted in wisdom and healing? By returning to the ancient practice of storytelling. In this transformative and healing workshop, we will gather as a community to reflect on words written by great poets and writers. We will learn to notice the wisdom of their words in our bodies, and we will learn about writing practices that will help us discover what it is we want to bring with us into this new season.
