Hi friends!
For months, I've been working on a visual documentary project -- "Home is Where Your Heart Is," documenting vehicle living in Berkeley and San Francisco. ^_^ While the project isn't quite finished yet, I'm happy to share a little piece of it! 🌻💕 Check out the photo exhibition of our community at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts!

Yesica Prado’s photojournalism project, Home Is Where Your Heart Is, looks at the culture of vehicular living in the Bay Area, examining how policies and regulations such as overnight parking bans are affecting people living in their cars and RVs in Berkeley and San Francisco. Hello neighbors,
Please don't forget to join us tomorrow at the Berkeley City Council meeting, which will be addressing RV Parking between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

While the agenda item didn't state the RV ban would go into effect, now, we have news that this could be a possibility. Make your VOICE count. We need solutions--not bans.

"The city has already identified 20 “RV households,” out of an estimated 139 in Berkeley, that qualify for the program, according to the council item, authored by Councilwoman Rashi Kesarwani with Mayor Jesse Arreguín and Councilwoman Kate Harrison. Outreach workers focused on those who have kids, are current students, or who’ve been displaced from a house in Berkeley when drawing up the list.

Kesarwani said Tuesday’s item would allow enforcement of the 2-5 a.m. RV parking ban to begin, even though no 24-hour safe parking site would be established."

Select, vulnerable RV households would get access to the "safe parking" sites if Tuesday's City Council proposal passes.

When city programs fail, the community finds their own solutions. Fundraising for an RV soon!

Bay Area Community Services (BACS) is the largest housing solutions program in the Bay Area and it's largely funded by tens of millions of taxpayer dollars. But dozens of people say they're back out on the street because of BACS.
