Indigenous and Native Coalition Recruitment and Retention Center - INC RRC To improve the retention of Native American students in secondary, post-secondary schools, and other

The Indigenous and Native Coalition (INC RRC) is a student-initiated organization founded in 1995 upon four main principles from an Indigenous perspective; Community, Outreach, Retention, and Culture. It is our purpose to maintain a continual connection to the communities from which we originate. We recognize the long, venerable history of our tribal nations and know it is our responsibility as yo

uth to represent them accurately and honorably within the University. We are a family and a community that seeks to help Native American students succeed in higher education. It is our purpose to demystify such higher education and to promote further outreach to Native American communities throughout the United States. We seek to increase a Native presence at all levels of higher education;
community colleges to tribal colleges, 4-year institutions to technical schools. It is our purpose to keep Native students at Cal and to increase and mantain adequate retention within the University. We must provide students with the necessary resources to achieve and foster a sense of community amongst our members. It is our ultimate purpose to advance the presence of Indigenous people and cultures within the University of California and in higher education in general, to foster the cultural-integrity and Indigenous perspective of what it means to have a family in higher education, and to respectfully speak for those of our community that couldn’t be here, can’t be here, and will soon be here.

Traditional food is a way that we are able to connect with ancestors that have passed and a way to strength our connection with our community members. Native communities have continued reclaiming traditional foods as a method of resistance for centuries. Join us as we share space with Vincent Medina (Chochenyo Ohlone) and Louis Trevino (Rumsen Ohlone), founders of Cafe Ohlone. Cafe Ohlone is dedicated to the strengthening Ohlone food sovereignty in the East Bay.

RSVP to recieve the link to the event via https://tinyurl.com/INCCafeOhlone.

We are excited to share space with you all. In the meantime, if you want to find out more about Cafe Ohlone visit their page: https://www.makamham.com/

Listening to the stories our elders have to share is a form of love and resistance. Elders hold so much knowledge that community members can learn from. Jessie Riddle (Pit River Nation) is a beloved community member in the Bay Area and has worked with the Intertribal Friendship House located in Oakland to share different stories that she carries. Check out her video and the beautiful work that the Intertribal Friendship House does for the local Native community in Oakland.
