The Indigenous and Native Coalition (INC RRC) is a student-initiated organization founded in 1995 upon four main principles from an Indigenous perspective; Community, Outreach, Retention, and Culture. It is our purpose to maintain a continual connection to the communities from which we originate. We recognize the long, venerable history of our tribal nations and know it is our responsibility as yo
uth to represent them accurately and honorably within the University. We are a family and a community that seeks to help Native American students succeed in higher education. It is our purpose to demystify such higher education and to promote further outreach to Native American communities throughout the United States. We seek to increase a Native presence at all levels of higher education;
community colleges to tribal colleges, 4-year institutions to technical schools. It is our purpose to keep Native students at Cal and to increase and mantain adequate retention within the University. We must provide students with the necessary resources to achieve and foster a sense of community amongst our members. It is our ultimate purpose to advance the presence of Indigenous people and cultures within the University of California and in higher education in general, to foster the cultural-integrity and Indigenous perspective of what it means to have a family in higher education, and to respectfully speak for those of our community that couldn’t be here, can’t be here, and will soon be here.
