Albany Berkeley Soccer Club www.abscsoccer.org We encourage our players to live a life-long healthy lifestyle though soccer. We emphasize respect, sportsmanship, teamwork and FUN!

Albany-Berkeley Soccer Club (ABSC) is a non-profit soccer community of 40+ years dedicated to providing opportunities for kids ages 4 through 23 of all ability levels to learn and play soccer. What sets our club apart:

COMMUNITY:
- Offer scholarships to help give all kids access to organized soccer
- Work with school lunchtime and afterschool programs
- Provide soccer activities at community and

school events
- Sponsor Soccer Without Borders
- Youth Leadership and Development Program - to encourage our older players to
give back to their soccer community by working as referees and trainers

NON-PROFIT STATUS:
- Fees invested directly back into our programs on the field
- All activities and staff properly insured
- Admin staff, trainers, and referees paid in accordance to employment laws
- Only club in the area to use ALL Senda fair trade soccer balls

SAFETY AWARENESS:
- Dedicated to reducing injury AND burnout
- First club to be no headers under age 13
- Require club-wide the FIFA 11+ warm-up to help reduce injury

TECHNICAL STAFF:
- Girls Program Director
- Boys Program Director
- Academy Skills Clinics Director
- Director of Training (responsible for our club-wide age appropriate training curriculum)
- 20+ skilled trainers to assist coaches

What a weekend! ABSC is proud to thank all of our Unity Cup participants! ⚽🏆

The Unity Cup was packed with incredible energy, and we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated, cheered, and volunteered. Hosting over 90 teams and 9 clubs made for a fantastic tournament environment, and we are so proud of how our players represented on the pitch. 💯🤩

✨Friday Player Spotlight: Sloane Crossman✨

Meet Sloane, a versatile powerhouse for ABSC! Starting with us back in kindergarten, Sloane has spent the last six years holding down the pitch as both a goalkeeper and a right winger.🧤

For Sloane, soccer is the ultimate escape.

“I love it! It is a good way to just let go of everything else and just play the game I love.” 🫶

Sloane deeply values team trust, but her favorite moments happen between the posts. “I really like when I make a good save,” she shares. “It feels like all your hard work and practice pays off.” 💪💯

When she isn’t channeling her favorite NWSL pro, Sophia Smith, Sloane stays active with volleyball and anything athletic. 🏐🏃‍♀️

This week, we are proud to feature a true cornerstone of our coaching staff, Ted Kemph! With 13 years of dedication to ABSC, Ted brings a deep wealth of soccer experience and passion to our community.

Ted has been playing soccer for 40 years and coaching for 24, working with every age group from U5 up to U21. For Ted, it’s all about the mindset—he loves working with any player at any level who is eager to learn, grow, and improve. 🙌🌱

With a background in education, Ted views the pitch as a classroom. He focuses on helping players build vital life skills through soccer while working to raise the standard of player development in our area. His dedication to our club runs deep:📚💯

“I love ABSC and I am excited to be involved in helping the Club be successful for another 50 years!”

Off the field, Ted has spent over 15 years working with neurodiverse young adults and their families. He is also an outdoor enthusiast who loves surfing and spending time with his family. As a passionate Manchester United fan, he draws inspiration from legends like Eric Cantona, Zinedine Zidane, and Roy Keane. 🏄‍♂️🫶

Brother Spotlight: Theo & Amari! ⚽️❤️

This week, we are celebrating a dynamic duo who grew up right here in the ABSC family: brothers Theo and Amari!

Soccer is a true family lifestyle for this crew—Dad coaches, Mom team manages, and their two-year-old sister is already developing a mean right foot. But the heart of the journey is the bond between the brothers.👥🫶

The Mentor: Theo
Theo has spent his entire four-year soccer career with ABSC, playing left wing and left back. Beyond his own play, he’s been the ultimate big brother—acting as an “assistant coach” for Amari, joining his drills when Amari was small and nervous, and traveling to cheer him on. 🙌💯
    •    Favorites: Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, Capoeira.

The Spark: Amari
Amari started in our First Touch program after watching his big brother play. Now a versatile utility player who loves scoring, Amari brings incredible energy to his team, noting that being on his squad “is like being a dragon.” 🐉🌟
    •    Favorites: Messi, Oakland Roots, Bay FC, BMX.

The secret to their skill? Constant practice. When they aren’t cheering for each other from the sidelines, the boys are constantly taking shots on each other—often right in the middle of the living room! 🛋️😲

From the sideline cheers to the living room goals, Theo and Amari embody the heart, hustle, and family spirit of ABSC. We love having you both in the club! ⚽️💙💛

✨Coach Spotlight: Petra Loer✨

This week, we are thrilled to feature one of our incredible parent coaches, Petra Loer! Coaching with ABSC since 2018, Petra brings 12 seasons of experience to our sidelines and a deep love for the game.

Petra’s soccer story began in kindergarten on a team coached by her own father. Decades later, she has kept that family tradition alive at ABSC—coaching her son for 5 seasons with the U7 Raptors, and now leading her daughter’s 5th-grade team, the Arctic Foxes! 🦖🦊

While she loves all age groups, the U10–U11 teams are her favorite. It’s the sweet spot where players start mastering strategy, building competitive skills, and bringing incredible game-day energy to the sidelines.

For Petra, the ultimate reward is watching players experience those classic “lightbulb moments” when a skill from practice clicks during a game. 💡👏

She has built a fantastic team culture through a post-game “Kudos” Circle, where players shout out each other’s accomplishments and help plan the next week’s practice. The impact of her thoughtful leadership speaks for itself: 🫶🤩

“One parent shared that they’ve seen a significant change in their daughter since she started playing—she is calmer, happier, and absolutely loves coming to soccer every day.”

When the season wraps up, Petra loves traveling the world to experience different cultures. Closer to home, her absolute happy place is Truckee in Lake Tahoe, where her family spends time skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer.🏔️❄️

🏆 DIVISION CHAMPIONS! 🏆

Talk about bringing it when it counted most! Our 2017B Lightning Strike Silver team just took home the division title after a completely clutch finish to the season.

With three games left, the boys were down by 17 goals in the differential and knew exactly what they had to do—win out by at least 6 goals each game.

They absolutely delivered: ⚽ 12-0 WIN ⚽ 7-1 WIN ⚽ 8-0 WIN (clinching the title against EAFC!)

Congratulations to the players and coaches for stepping up when everything was on the line. Way to bring it home, Lightning! ⚡️💪💙💛
