The Women’s Cancer Resource Center was again honored to attend the Allen Temple Baptist Church Holistic Health Fair earlier this month.

WCRC volunteers Iniyaa and Amy enjoyed interacting with attendees including medical professionals, families and other community members to share the latest programs and services offered by WCRC. Thank you, Allen Temple!

Today marks National Women's Equality Day, a moment to reflect on how far we've come and how much work remains, especially when it comes to equitable access to healthcare. For women facing a cancer diagnosis, equality isn't just about opportunity. It's about having the support, information, and community needed to navigate treatment and beyond, regardless of income, background, or circumstance. Community spaces where women can be seen, heard, and cared for are part of that work.

This month, in honor of National Wellness Month, we spent some time sitting with the participants of "Process Painting", one of the many wellness workshops we hold at WCRC for our clients.

This group comes together to paint what they're feeling in the moment, without judgement of their creations. Many of the participants shared that this is a really lovely way for them to express themselves freely, and simply enjoy the process.

Earlier this month, we attended Unity in Community, an outdoor festival sponsored by MacDonald Avenue Church of Christ and the Whole Mind Institute. The event’s focus on total health, encompassing mind, body, and spirit, closely aligns with WCRC’s commitment to holistic wellness and we were grateful to attend again this year to share our resources.

It was great to see families and lots of little ones out and about, enjoying this vibrant community event. Thank you again to our hosts, it was a wonderful afternoon!

In honor of National Wellness Month this August, we're grateful to share the wisdom of Dr. Grace Chen, one of our dedicated volunteer psychologists who generously gives her time to support the mental well-being of our clients.

Wellness is both internal and external. Alongside mental health support, we're proud to offer programs like yoga, qigong, and reiki, to nurture our clients from the inside out. Thank you, Dr. Chen, for the compassion and expertise you bring to our community.

August is National Make a Will Month. For some people, that may include remembering a nonprofit or community organization in a will, trust, or beneficiary designation.

A planned gift to WCRC can help make free cancer information, support, and care available to future generations. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and even a simple conversation can be a helpful place to start.

Visit https://www.wcrc.org/donate/legacy/ to learn more about including WCRC in your planned giving.

Thank you to the Louie B. Mendoza, DDS - Kensington Dental Care team for coming together to pack 44 bags of culturally reflective groceries for WCRC clients. It was a wonderful reminder of the many ways our community chooses to show up, offering their time, energy, and care alongside their generosity.

July is BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month and this year's theme is "More Good Days, Together".

It encourages us to redefine what a "good day" means. Sometimes it’s not about being perfectly productive, but simply coping, taking small steps for self-care, and leaning on our communities for support.

In honor of BIPOC Mental Health Month, Mental Health America has shared the following resources. Please consider sharing them with your community, loved ones, and networks.

Last week, staff and board members from the Women's Cancer Resource Center and Charlotte Maxwell Clinic came together for a Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) training, facilitated by The Pacific Center for Human Growth and led by Glo Rodriguez and Niki Khanna. Hosted at the California Endowment offices, the day reflected the best of what collaboration and community centered partnership can make possible.

This training strengthened our partnership and advanced our shared commitment to building more equitable, affirming, and welcoming care environments. Learning alongside one another helps us reduce barriers to cancer care, deepen trust with the communities we serve, and ensure every client feels seen, valued, and supported.

It's part of our broader commitment to cultural humility, an ongoing practice of listening, learning, challenging assumptions, and improving how we show up for the communities we serve.

Grateful to Gilead for believing in this work and providing the funding that helps make it possible. 💛
