Berkeley, La Peña needs you. 🗳️

Measure Y is on the November ballot, and if it passes, it would create 12 years of dedicated arts funding for Berkeley, putting La Peña in line to receive annual support for years to come. That kind of stability is a game changer for us and our sister organizations across Berkeley.

Funds are restricted to the arts. The cost is about $105 a year for the average Berkeley home, with exemptions for low-income seniors, very low-income households, and affordable housing.

If you’re registered to vote in Berkeley, we’re asking for your YES on Measure Y.

When mainstream histories leave communities out, who does the work of activating memory? 🌻

The Fruitvale History Project has been doing exactly that since 2013, capturing the untold political history of Oakland’s Fruitvale through over 50 interviews with the organizers, educators, health workers, and artists who built movements for social change in the 1960s–80s.

From the Anti-Bakke Movement to the United Farm Workers, their archive preserves the stories behind the organizations that still serve the community today, Centro Legal de la Raza, La Clínica de la Raza, and more.

They’re joining us next week at When We Win for a dialogue on memory and movement building.
