Scientific Adventures for Girls

Scientific Adventures for Girls SAfG is working to change the face of science. We provide fun & engaging STEM programs for youth in the East Bay Area.

Our mission is to remove systemic barriers to all girls’ participation in STEM starting in kindergarten, engage them through hands-on learning, increase their positive attitudes toward STEM, and equip them with 21st century skills.

Spring Appeal 2026 is complete—thank you! 🌷

Although the campaign has ended, we still rely on donations throughout the year to keep our work going.

If making a one-time gift is difficult, consider a small monthly recurring donation instead. Consistent support, even at modest amounts, goes a long way and helps sustain our mission every day. Thank you for your continued support! ❤️

Biomimicry, Simple Machines, and the Chemistry of Slime... oh my! 🧪🐌⚙️

We’re breaking the mold of the traditional afterschool class with dynamic, interactive learning that brings concepts to life. Our targeted curriculum is specifically engineered to engage TK-6th grade minds through high-quality, culturally sensitive, and deeply engaging hands-on projects. By blending social-emotional learning with rigorous engineering principles, we ensure our classes are safe spaces where curiosity thrives, and complex ideas become foundational concepts.

Curious what our weekly programs look like in action? Check out the latest photos from the 2025-2026 school year to see the measurable impact of our curriculum across 25+ educational institutions!

It takes a community to raise a scientist! 🌍

From our interactive Family STEAM Events to our library drop-in programs, SAfG is dedicated to making hands-on learning accessible to the entire East Bay community. We don't just teach students; we bring parents, educators, local tech companies, and community members together to build a robust, nurturing STEM ecosystem. When families explore together, the learning never stops.

Want to bring interactive, joyful STEM learning to your neighborhood? Head over to scientificadventures.org to check out our upcoming community events or find out how to bring SAfG to your local school!

"I can make this experiment work." This mindset shift happens when you give a young girl the tools, the space, and permission to fail forward. 🛠️

True empowerment isn't just about handing over a textbook; it’s about handing over safety goggles, tools, and design challenges. When our students test an experiment, and it doesn't work the first time, they don't say, "I'm not good at science." They say, "Let me try another way." That is resilience. That is economic freedom and future leadership in the making. 💪

Did you know that girls start forming negative views about science and their own abilities as early as kindergarten? 📉 Let’s change that narrative.

At Scientific Adventures for Girls, we aren't waiting until middle or high school to bridge the gender gap in tech and engineering. We are entering transitional kindergarten to 6th-grade classrooms right now to show young girls—especially girls of color from low-income communities—that they are natural-born scientists and innovators. Early exposure creates lifelong confidence! 💡

Thank you for attending our latest STEM Career Day!

This past weekend, students explored careers in technology and engineering, heard from inspiring women in STEM, and got to experience these fields through a hands-on engineering activity using the engineering design process 💡⚙️

We loved seeing students collaborate, ask questions, and imagine their futures in STEM!

At the end of her very first 27-week SAfG STEM class, one little kindergartener had only one concern:
“Grandmom… you PROMISE I can go to science camp, right??”
Apparently she had already decided that science camp was non-negotiable. 😂
Over the past several months, she went from being shy about science to confidently using "science" ingredients to make slime, building engineering projects out of Legos, and talking nonstop about rockets. Her favorite moment was learning about the recent “Artemissss” moon flyby (Artemis 😉), which she described to her family in great detail for days afterward.
Now she says she wants to be an astronaut.
And if becoming an astronaut doesn’t work out exactly as planned, she has a backup idea:
she’s going to open a slime store on the moon.
Because “slime would float better there.”
Honestly? We support the vision.
This is what happens when girls are given space to explore, imagine, build, fail, question, and dream. In just one semester, STEM became something she sees herself inside of — not something “for other people.”
She already told her teachers:
“I can’t WAIT until next year.”
Help us create more moments like this for more girls.

Our Spring Appeal is almost at a close — and we still need your help to inspire the next generation of girls in STEM 💜🔬

Every week, SAfG girls build confidence, explore science, develop leadership skills, and discover that they belong in STEM. Your support helps us provide hands-on programming, caring mentors, family STEM events, and life-changing opportunities for girls across our communities.
If you haven’t made your gift yet, there’s still time.
Please donate today:

Every contribution — large or small — helps create more opportunities for girls to see themselves as scientists, engineers, innovators, and leaders.
Thank you for believing in our girls and investing in their futures. 🌟

🧪✨ Future scientists were NOT built in boring classrooms.

They were built with slime explosions, engineering challenges, messy experiments, coding projects, and the confidence to say:

“I made this.” 💥

At Scientific Adventures for Girls, girls across the East Bay are doing WAY more than learning science facts…

🚀 They’re building real projects
💡 Solving real problems
🤖 Exploring robotics, engineering, coding & chemistry
🙌 Meeting women who actually work in STEM
🔥 And discovering they belong there too

Because sometimes all it takes is ONE program…
ONE mentor…
ONE experiment…

…to completely change how a girl sees her future.

The future of STEM is already here — and she’s probably covered in glitter, slime, or tape right now. 💖🔬
