UC Berkeley’s Pilipinx American Alliance (PAA) presents: 49th Annual Pilipinx Cultural Night (PCN): “Makibeki sa Mahal”
PCN 49’s “Makibeki sa Mahal” centers themes of surveillance, migrant worker rights, and self-discovery through relationships. “Makibeki sa Mahal” means “Fight with Love.” “Makibeki” comes from the chant “Makibeki, huwag mashokot!” This is the q***r version of “Makibaka, huwag matakot!” or “Struggle, do not be afraid!” — a battlecry created in the 1970s against the Marcos Sr. dictatorship. Activists fighting for Filipino liberation in the Philippines and across the world still chant this today!

Synopsis of the Show:
A wedding is to be every girl’s dream—or is it?
Welcome to The Crimson, a luxurious, 5-star hotel championed for its service, industry-leading technology, and deeply devoted worker body. As a young woman’s wedding approaches, she starts noticing that her to-be husband, despite all his money and charm, isn’t all that he seems. At the wedding venue—The Crimson, owned by her fiancé of course—Filipino workers are facing wage theft and labor violations, and she begins to suspect he’s hiding something. The workers are catching on, too…
And as they uncover more, one-by-one, their behavior strikingly shifts.
And just her luck, her ex—the girl her family doesn’t know about—has been working to gather the staff in a strike since before the ceremony. Secrets lie around the scene of the wedding; to reveal or not to reveal?
