Meet our new Events Chair, Natalia Zepeda!
Hello (: I’m a chicana from Los Angeles county who heavily resonates with Guadalajaran Mexican culture. I’m eighteen years old and a freshman studying Spanish and, hopefully, Latin American Studies. I love mariachi, rancheras, boleros, and huapangos as far as music goes, and I love to cook the food that I grew up with. I swam for three years and am now trying out ballet folklorico. I have travelled through 10 Mexican states and very much enjoy swimming in waterfalls and rivers and the ocean. I am super family oriented and love kids. I hope I end up studying abroad in Mexico City this upcoming fall, as I want deeper insight to education in Mexico and prevalent ideologies there. I hope to become a lawyer and start an organization supporting indigenous and rural-area education in Latin America. I love being a part of YEP because it reminds me of home and reminds me that when I was in the same position as the families we’re working with, I felt like I wanted to be guided and supported a bit more. There is such a bright future ahead of the immigrant and underserved community, and we, as YEP members, have the blessing of watching them grow and discover new interests and resources.
