Space Enterprise at Berkeley - SEB

Space Enterprise at Berkeley - SEB Space Enterprise at Berkeley is a student run liquid-fuel rocket team dedicated to achieving spacefli

SEB is one of the most ambitious college rocket teams in the world working towards achieving spaceflight with a liquid-fueled rocket. Working toward this dream, SEB launched multiple test-bed rockets and gained a wide array of technical knowledge and skill in rocket subsystems such as composite airframe manufacturing, in-flight data acquisition, and propulsion.

Space Enterprise at Berkeley (SEB) is one of the world’s most ambitious collegiate rocket teams. We were founded with the goal of pushing the boundaries of amateur aerospace and showing that a collegiate team is capable of developing advanced rockets. Our team is incredibly ambitious and driven to become the first collegiate rocketry team in the world to successfully launch a liquid-bipropellant rocket to space, with previous rockets already holding record titles. We have a team of brilliant Cal engineers working to design, manufacture, and test our systems, and now we’re recruiting new members to help support our mission to reach the stars.

We pride ourselves on an open admissions policy where the only thing you need to join our team is the passion to help us achieve our mission and the dedication to get things done! Rocket development involves many different fields such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, programming but with so many different things to work on such as airframes, our engine, our flight computer.. there’s really a spot and work for everyone who wants to get involved! At SEB you’ll get to use knowledge you learned in classes but also learn things that no courses at Berkeley teach. You’ll get valuable hands-on experience, learn to work in teams with smart and driven people, meet with our industry partners, engage in exciting and sometimes unpredictable testing and most importantly catch some amazing rocket launches!

If solving problems and trying to make history sounds exciting to you, SEB is the right place for you! Here is our current event schedule, which we’ll update throughout the course of our recruitment cycle.

Infosession #1: August 26, 7pm in Jacobs 310
Intro to Rocketry #1: August 31, 7:30pm in Jacobs 310

Have you ever wanted to build a rocket?
Of course you have.

Wanted to join a group of awesome people?
Say less.

Wondering how to build a rocket virtually?
Well… that one’s still in Research & Development

-------------------------------------------------

Space Enterprise at Berkeley is recruiting new members for Fall 2020! Space Enterprise at Berkeley, Cal's only space-shot rocketry team and the only UC Berkeley team to launch a supersonic vehicle, is looking for members interested in applying engineering and science to high performance rocketry. Join us as we design and build our first liquid-fueled rocket, Eureka-1, and launch to 40000+ feet!

No experience necessary! All majors encouraged to attend!

Looking for new ENGINEERING & BUSINESS Team members!

Another one for the books! Last Saturday, SEB successfully launched LAD-4 (aka Updog) to validate several key flight hardware that will fly in EUREKA-1! In the process, we also ended up breaking UC Berkeley's rocket flight altitude and speed records by reaching a top altitude of 11,193 ft and top speed of 1.18 Mach!

Key milestones reached:

✅ Data measurement and deployment avionics performed nominally deploying drogue chute at apogee and triggering main chute release sub 1000 ft!

✅ Validated custom optimized modular airframe at supersonic speeds!

✅ Recovered rocket for future flights!

Big thanks to the Engineering Student Council at Berkeley and Friends Of Amateur Rocketry (FAR) Launch Site for making this launch possible!

Inflight Go-Pro POV footage coming soon!

this is not a weapons test 😅

Currently testing recovery deployment charges for supersonic rocket LAD-4's nosecone! The stubby airframe in the video is from our first rocket LAD-1 FYI. LAD-4 full rocket unveil coming soon!
