We typically have 13 "regular" meetings per year. at the Berkeley City Club on Durant St. from October through May on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays. We often have only one meeting in December and our 2nd meeting in May is generally called Founders' Night and is some form of social event.

Our meetings start at 6:15pm with a dinner served in a private room and usually lasts till 9:30. At the end of dinner, while we are still seated, one of our members will give a brief (10-12 minutes) semi-extemporaneous talk on some subject of general interest. After this, there is a recess and we resume, generally in another room, for the main essay. Essays are discourses on matters of general interest and last about 45 minutes.

Above all, we encourage broad, objective thought with the more substance the better. Balance is not a necessity. Taking a firm position is encouraged and anticipated.
