2025年度（冬）日本人研究者交流会を開催しました

日時　　2026年2月7日（土）午後1時00分～午後7時30分

場所　　DAVID BROWER CENTER

JSPSサンフランシスコ研究連絡センター主催の「2025年度（冬）日本人研究者交流会」を2月7日に開催いたしました。

本交流会は、米国で活躍する日本人研究者の分野を超えた交流を促進し、情報交換や友好を深めることを通じて、研究活動を充実させることを目的としています。米国でPIとして活躍する研究者、客員研究員、大学教職員、ポスドク、大学院生、大学生、企業研究者など、162名が参加しました。

中別府センター長による開会挨拶、JSPS事業紹介の後、ポスター発表者によるフラッシュトークやポスターセッションを実施しました。同プログラムでは異分野の研究者同士の交流が広がり、有意義な企画となりました。ポスターセッション終了後にベイエリアの日本人研究者コミュニティ等の紹介を行いました。

講演では、はじめに内閣府科学技術・イノベーション推進事務局統括官の井上諭一様より、「日本の研究システム刷新の提案～第 7 期科学技術・イノベーション基本計画の策定」と題してご講演いただきました。参加者からは、「非常に具体的な課題意識を聞けたのがとても印象に残った。」「現時点で政府が実現できていること、できていないことがクリアになった。」といったご意見が寄せられました。

また、その後の基調講演①では、松本洋一郎先生（外務大臣科学技術顧問）に「科学技術外交とその推進」と題してご講演いただきました。日本の科学技術政策、科学技術外交、国際頭脳循環の現状と課題等ついて、さらにPI Map取組の目的から現状についても説明いただきました。その後の質疑応答では今後の日本の科学技術等に関する意見交換が行われました。

基調講演②では、山中伸弥先生（京都大学 iPS 細胞研究所 名誉所長・教授、京都大学 iPS 細胞研究財団 理事長、米国グラッドストーン研究所 上席研究員）に「「iPS 細胞はいかに作られたか」と題して、ご自身のキャリアや研究について参加者との質疑応答を交えながらご講演いただきました。非専門家でも楽しめる講演内容に、参加者からは、「大変興味深いお話を聞けた」「軽妙かつ励まさられる内容で素晴らしかった」等の感想が寄せられました。

最後に、講演者の3名をパネリストとしてお迎えし、「日本と海外の研究環境のギャップ」「政策の理想と現場の現実のギャップ」「需要と供給（人材育成・待遇・受け皿）のギャップ」をテーマにパネルディスカッションを実施し、最後はパネリストから参加者へのメッセージをいただきました。

交流会終了後には、懇親会が開催され、研究者同士の意見交換やネットワーク構築が行われました。

多くの方のご支援により、最終的に参加者が160名を超える活気のある交流会となりました。
来年度も、当センターでは日本人研究者交流会を開催する予定です。詳細は決定次第、ウェブサイト等でお知らせします。

The application for the 2026 Japanese Studies Japanese Government (文部科学省 MEXT) Scholarship is now open.

College students majoring in Japanese Language or Japanese Studies can spend one year furthering their studies at a university in Japan through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Scholarship for Japanese Studies.

九州大学のWPI（International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research [WPI-I²CNER]）より以下の案内がありましたので、お知らせ致します。

【Kyushu University Energy Week 202６】

1. Overview
Kyushu University hosts the “Kyushu University Energy Week” annually, bringing together energy-related research departments across the university. This event features a variety of programs, including international symposia and workshops, with participation from world-leading researchers and experts from industry and local governments in the fields of energy and decarbonization.
During the week, ーthe International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (WPI-I²CNER) will hold its annual symposium, “I²CNER Annual Symposium: Challenge and Innovation for a Carbon-Neutral Society and Beyond”, as well as I²CNER Thrust Workshops and CESD Workshop. In addition, as a related event, a joint symposium with the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) will take place in Okinawa on January 21–22.
We look forward to your participation.

カリフォルニア大学バークレー校（日本研究センター、アジア・アメリカ研究センター）との共催シンポジウムを開催しました。

日時：2025年9月26日（金）

場所： カリフォルニア大学バークレー校　東アジア研究所　５階 IEAS 会議室 （ 2111 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA 94720 ）

JSPSサンフランシスコ研究連絡センターでは、2025年9月26日、カリフォルニア大学バークレー校（日本研究センター、アジア・アメリカ研究センター）と共催で国際シンポジウム「日系アメリカ人強制収容所文学の翻訳」を開催いたしました。

公開シンポジウムでは、日米加3カ国から7名の演者を招聘し、第二次世界大戦中に日系アメリカ人が強制収容されていた時代に書かれた日本語の文学を保存・翻訳するための学術的・地域的活動の過去・現在・未来について議論を深めることを目的として、ハイブリッド（対面及びZoom）での講演とパネルディスカッションが行われました。パネルディスカッションでは、演者間に加えて一般参加者とも活発な質疑応答が行われ、盛況のうちに終了しました。翌27日には、コミュニティー・フィードバックセッションが非公開で行われました。

JSPSサンフランシスコ研究連絡センターでは、今後も定期的に共催シンポジウムを開催する予定です。

UC Berkeley (Center for Japanese Studies, Asian American Research Center)-JSPS SF Joint Symposium

On September 26th, 2025, JSPS San Francisco Office co-hosted with the Center for Japanese Studies and the Asian American Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley, an international symposium entitled “Translating Japanese American Incarceration Camp Literature.” The symposium was held at the IEAS Conference Room in the Institute of East Asian Studies of UC Berkeley and online.

The public symposium featured a hybrid format (in-person and Zoom) with lectures and a panel discussion. Seven speakers from Japan, the United States, and Canada were invited to deepen discussions on the past, present, and future of academic and community efforts to preserve and translate Japanese-language literature written during the era when Japanese Americans were forcibly interned during World War II. The panel discussion featured lively Q&A sessions not only among the speakers but also with general participants, concluding successfully. The following day, the 27th, a closed-door Community Feedback Session was held.

JSPS San Francisco Office will continue to hold joint symposia on a regular basis in the future.
