VIDA Medical Volunteering at UC Berkeley VIDA Medical Volunteer at Berkeley is a non-profit that sets up mobile clinics in Central America during summer and winter breaks. Come check us out!

The mission of the UC Berkeley chapter of VIDA is to provide students with the opportunity to volunteer abroad, offering invaluable clinical experience and the chance to play a part in bettering the public health of global communities. As a part of VIDA Volunteer, a national non-profit that is dedicated to providing free healthcare services to impoverished communities throughout Central America, w

e make bi-annual trips to a variety of Central American communities, affording our members first-hand exposure to clinical practice and the nuances of global health. At home on campus, we contribute to the collective pre-health student community by offering a student-led course on the physiological conditions and clinical practices demonstrated on our trips, and more broadly by facilitating events and panels to enhance the pre-health experience. We’re also just an awesome, chill group of people.

Interested in medical volunteering?

VIDA UC Berkeley connects students with the opportunity to travel abroad for hands-on clinical experience. We host mobile clinics in Central American countries, bringing medical care to underserved communities. In the past, we have traveled to Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Costa Rica.

What happens on the trip?

We work with local doctors who guide us in diagnosing and treating patients. We also take vitals, scribe patient history, and present case reports to the doctors.

No experience? No problem!

There is no application to join VIDA, and we will provide all of the necessary training. We offer a series of clinical workshops, which will completely prepare you for the trip. The workshops will train you in conducting physical examinations, recognizing diseases, and provide a global and cultural perspective about disease and healthcare.

Don’t want to go on the trip?

Don’t worry, we have local opportunities too!
We have two Public Health Committees that work to promote health info to the general public through posters and pamphlets. These materials will be translated into Spanish and brought with us on the trip to promote health education in the communities we visit.

Join us for virtual Calapalooza from 1/25-1/27 from 5-7PM PST. If you are interested in learning more about what we do or just want to say hi, please drop by anytime during the time period!
