🐾📊 Member Spotlight: Little Dog Bookkeeping 📊🐾

Tomorrow is October 1.

Which means we're officially heading into the fourth quarter of 2026, and somewhere right now, a small business owner is looking at a pile of receipts and whispering, "I'll deal with you later." 😄

We understand. Running a small business means wearing approximately 427 different hats, and somehow "keep the books perfectly organized" is supposed to fit in there between taking care of customers, answering emails, paying bills, managing employees, ordering supplies, marketing your business and, occasionally, actually going home.

That's exactly why businesses like Little Dog Bookkeeping exist.

Owner Rhonda Morin (she's the one on the right 😉) knows the small business juggling act firsthand. Over more than 25 years, she's owned businesses in everything from pet services and interior design to real estate and health and wellness, and she's been the person keeping track of the finances along the way. Today, she brings all of that experience to Little Dog Bookkeeping, helping entrepreneurs get their financial "doghouse" in order so they can spend more time actually running their businesses.

And she has the credentials to back it up. Rhonda is a QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified and Elite ProAdvisor, a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers, and holds a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University.

As we head into the final three months of the year, it's a pretty good time for all of us in business to take a look at the books, make sure things are where they're supposed to be, and maybe find those receipts we've been meaning to enter since... let's not talk about when. 😉

Thank you to Little Dog Bookkeeping for being a member of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce and for helping small business owners spend a little less time chasing numbers... and a little more time chasing their goals.

Have you felt it yet?

That first evening when you step outside and realize summer isn't quite as in charge as it was a few weeks ago? The days are getting shorter, the evenings are getting cooler, and whether we're ready to admit it or not... heating season is coming. 😄

Which makes this a pretty good time to talk about our friends at Blue Flame, Inc.
Blue Flame has been serving homes and businesses throughout our area since 1977, providing propane for everything from home heating and fireplaces to cooking, hot water, generators, grills and more. They're family-owned, locally operated, and conveniently located right here in Berkeley Springs. You know the place... big Blue Flame sign, right beside Dairy Queen. 😉

And while none of us particularly wants to think about a cold January night just yet, before you need the heat is a much better time to make sure you're ready for it. Blue Flame offers propane delivery, equipment and installation, a showroom filled with fireplaces, heaters and other options, plus 24/7 emergency service for those occasions when life doesn't have the courtesy to break during regular business hours.

Of course, we're not giving up on warm weather completely. There's still plenty of grilling season left, and Blue Flame can help with that propane tank too. Around here, we're perfectly capable of turning on the fireplace at night and firing up the grill the next afternoon. Welcome to fall in West Virginia. 😂

For nearly five decades, Blue Flame has been helping keep homes and businesses throughout our region warm, comfortable and running, and we're proud to have them as longtime members of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce.

Thank you, Blue Flame, Inc., for serving our community year after year.

🛋️🏠 Member Spotlight: Clark's Home Furnishings 🏠🛋️

Here's a little Morgan County trivia for you...

Clark's Home Furnishings has been helping people make themselves at home since 1974.

That's more than 50 years of sofas and refrigerators, mattresses and dining room tables, new kitchens, new floors, remodeling projects, first homes, forever homes... and probably more than a few emergency "the washing machine just died" trips. 😄🙋‍♀️

Clark's started on Washington Street in downtown Berkeley Springs, relocated to Fairfax Street after its original location was destroyed in the Washington Hotel fire, and moved to its current home on Valley Road in 1987. The address may have changed a few times, but the family-owned business and hometown service behind it haven't.

And if you haven't been in for a while, you might be surprised by just how much they do. Clark's carries furniture, mattresses, appliances, cabinetry, countertops and flooring, with the kind of knowledgeable, personal service that's pretty hard to fit into an online shopping cart.

Speaking of flooring... if you've been staring at that one room thinking, "We really need to do something about this floor," this might be your sign. 😉 Clark's currently has specials on several flooring options, 25% off in-stock area rugs, and they offer professional installation along with removal and disposal of your old flooring. That's a home improvement project with considerably less hauling involved, and we're all for that!

More than five decades in business doesn't happen by accident. It comes from knowing your products, taking care of your customers, adapting along the way, and being part of the community you serve.

Thank you to Clark's Home Furnishings for doing exactly that for more than 50 years, and for being a valued member of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce.

And if your refrigerator, washing machine, sofa, mattress OR flooring has been trying to tell you something lately... you know where to go. 😄

🍎🥕☕ Congratulations to Harvest Trails Market on their Grand Opening! ☕🥕🍎

One of my favorite things about this job is getting to watch a small business grow.

Many of you already knew Harvest Trails Co. for their delicious freeze-dried fruit, made from fresh, locally sourced produce. What started as a veteran-owned small business with a simple idea, creating healthy, grab-and-go snacks from fruits and vegetables harvested at their peak, has now grown into something even bigger.

Today, we were thrilled to help celebrate the Grand Opening of Harvest Trails Market, the newest member of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce! 🎉✂️ Go find them at 347 N Washington St in Berkeley Springs, right across from the Train Depot!

Their beautiful new market is filled with so much more than their fantastic freeze-dried fruit. You'll also find fresh local produce, fresh-squeezed orange juice made right before your eyes, locally roasted coffee and specialty drinks, fresh sourdough bread and other baked goods, honey, maple syrup, sorghum, flour, pancake mix, teas, soaps, and products from many of our local farmers and makers. It's the kind of place where you walk in planning to "just look around"... and leave with a whole list of things you want to come back and try. (Mine kept getting longer the more I looked! 😄)

We also love that Harvest Trails continues to support local agriculture by working with area farms and orchards, bringing fresh, high-quality products to our community while helping support other small businesses along the way. That's exactly the kind of collaboration we love to see.

If you haven't stopped by yet, this weekend is the perfect time! Their Grand Opening celebration continues with giveaways, a food truck on site, and on Saturday, Barks & Brews with the Morgan County Humane Society, where you'll even have the chance to meet some adorable dogs looking for their forever homes. 🐾

Congratulations again to everyone at Harvest Trails Market! We wish you many years of success, and we're excited to welcome you as the newest members of the Chamber family.

Wow... what a night!! ❤️

We can't stop smiling today after an incredible evening celebrating our 2026 Community Award winners! To everyone who joined us last night, thank you. It was one of those evenings that reminds you exactly why Morgan County is such a special place. If you weren't inspired after hearing the stories of this year's winners... well... you clearly weren't paying attention! 😉

A huge thank you to our presenting sponsor, CNB Bank, Inc., and to President Mark Harrell for once again serving as our emcee. Thank you to The Country Inn of Berkeley Springs for another wonderful dinner, a beautiful venue, and a staff that made the evening absolutely seamless. Thank you to Heritage Woodsmith for creating these stunning awards. They're truly works of art, and I know they'll be proudly displayed for many years to come.

Thank you as well to our Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, our Morganite Committee, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the evening run so smoothly. Thank you to everyone who donated raffle items, to everyone who took the time to nominate an amazing person or organization, and to every single person who came out to celebrate with us.

And most of all... thank you, Morgan County.

These winners don't do what they do for recognition. In fact, most of them would probably rather avoid the spotlight altogether! That's exactly why these awards exist. They give us the chance to pause, celebrate the people who make our community stronger, and simply say, "Thank you."

Congratulations once again to our amazing 2026 Community Award winners!

• Apple Butter Festival Volunteer of the Year: Rob Ford
• Employee of the Year: Mark Winiarski (MAC Ice House)
• Community Service Award: Matt Pennington
• Community Hero: Dave Fink
• Nonprofit of the Year: Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC)
• Business of the Year: Roy's Service Center
• Morganites: Betty Hovermale & Cindy Hovermale

Now comes one of our favorite traditions! Be sure to cheer them on as they lead the 51st Annual Apple Butter Festival, WV Parade on Saturday, October 10th ... fittingly riding through town on a rollback graciously provided by Roy's Service Center.

Congratulations again to each and every one of you, and thank you for making Morgan County the wonderful place we all call home.

So... we've been keeping a little secret... ❤️

Every year, the Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce Morganite Awards (sponsored by CNB Bank, Inc.) follow the same process. You nominate incredible people from across Morgan County, I print every single nomination and hand them to the chair of the Morganite Committee, Becky Stotler. Becky then passes them along to an anonymous committee of community members who carefully read and rank every nomination before choosing all of our Community Award winners.

This year, though, something different happened.

Suddenly I heard was that the committee wanted to meet because they simply couldn't decide between two people for our highest honor. When they came back, they had made a decision none of us expected.

For the first time ever, there wouldn't be one Morganite... there would be TWO!

The moment I found out who they had chosen, it all made perfect sense, because some stories are simply meant to be told together.

As mother and daughter, Betty Hovermale and Cindy Hovermale have spent generations showing what kindness, generosity, and service truly look like. Many of you know them through Roy's Service Center, a Morgan County institution that has been caring for neighbors for more than sixty years. But their impact reaches far beyond the business. They've quietly supported local nonprofits, schools, first responders, fundraisers, families in need, and countless community causes, often without ever asking for recognition.

They've also made generations of neighbors, friends, and newcomers feel welcome, leaving an immeasurable mark on our community. As one nominator wrote, "The spirit of giving was instilled throughout the family and lived out daily for decades."

Betty was described by another nominator as "more than a business owner... a community treasure." Cindy has carried that same spirit forward, using her voice to shine a light on community needs, celebrate the successes of others, and inspire people to get involved. Her willingness to support and promote others, one nominator wrote, "multiplies the impact of every effort."

Together, they remind us that the greatest legacy we can leave is how we care for one another.

Earlier in the evening, Roy's Service Center was honored as our 2026 Business of the Year. The entire Roy's team joined the family on stage to accept the award, earning two standing ovations from the crowd.

A little later, when Betty and Cindy were announced as our very first co-Morganites... they received two more!

It was an incredible night, and I don't think there were many dry eyes in the room.

Congratulations, Betty and Cindy! Thank you for a lifetime of kindness, generosity, and love for Morgan County. We are so grateful to celebrate you both!

I'll have lots more photos from an unforgettable evening to share tomorrow. For now... I'm going to bed!

Goodnight, Morgan County. ❤️ And thank you!

Can I tell you something?

The last few days I've somehow managed to hear the phrase "upgrade to a 200-amp service" more times than I have in the last ten years - combined! My mom is talking about doing it, Ronnie at RTW Electric has been posting about it... and at this point I'm starting to think the universe is trying to tell me something.

Maybe it's trying to tell you, too.... 🤔

After more than 20 years working on large electrical projects and as a government contractor, Ron Wood decided it was time to bring that experience home. As a lifelong Morgan County resident, he started RTW Electric to provide exceptional electrical service to the community he's always called home.

Whether it's upgrading an older electrical service, replacing outdated panels, wiring up a new hot tub before the cool weather arrives, or solving those mysterious electrical problems that always seem to happen at the worst possible time, Ronnie is known for doing quality work and treating his customers right. One customer recently summed it up perfectly: "As always, Ronnie to the rescue!"

We're also grateful for the help Ronnie provides behind the scenes with the Chamber. He's helped us with the electrical equipment we use during the Apple Butter Festival and because of his expertise, we're able to help power other community events throughout the year as well.

As we head into fall and start spending a little more time indoors, if you've been looking at your electrical panel and thinking, "You know... I should probably have someone take a look at that," maybe the universe is trying to tell you something, too. 😉

Thank you, Ronnie, for helping keep Morgan County safely powered and for being a valued member of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce.

🌻🍂💚 Member Spotlight: WVU Extension Master Gardeners of Morgan County 💚🍂🌻

As summer starts to give way to fall, gardens all over Morgan County are changing. The tomatoes are slowing down, mums are starting to steal the show, and gardeners everywhere are wondering, "Now what?"

Luckily... we know just who to ask. 😄

The Master Gardeners of Morgan County are one of those organizations that quietly makes our community a little more beautiful every single year. Whether they're teaching workshops, helping identify invasive plants, answering gardening questions, sharing tips on attracting pollinators, or explaining why bats, dragonflies, and even a few caterpillars are actually your friends, they're always happy to share what they know.

And recently, all of that hard work bloomed into something pretty special.

The Master Gardeners were honored with the Bath in Bloom Award in recognition of their years of volunteer work creating and maintaining the beautiful demonstration gardens at the Morgan County Public Library. It's a well-deserved honor for a group that has spent nearly three decades helping our community bloom, one plant at a time.

But they do so much more than tend flower beds. They teach houseplant workshops, introduce children to the joy of growing something with their own hands, share practical gardening tips throughout the year, and inspire the rest of us to roll up our sleeves and get outside. One of my favorite things about following their page is that I'm always learning something new. One day it's the best way to tackle poison ivy, the next it's why you shouldn't cut back certain plants in the fall because the birds still need them. You never know what you'll discover next!

So if you love gardening, want to learn a little more, or simply enjoy seeing Morgan County looking its very best, do yourself a favor and follow the Master Gardeners of Morgan County here on Facebook. Your flowers, vegetables... and maybe even those tomatoes hanging on just a little longer... will thank you. 🌼🍅

And if you've ever thought about becoming a Master Gardener yourself, they'll be hosting an Open House on October 5 at the WVU Extension Office. No experience is necessary, just a curiosity about gardening and a willingness to learn.

Thank you to the Master Gardeners of Morgan County for sharing your knowledge, your time, and your talents with all of us, and for being valued members of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan Co Chamber of Commerce .
