🎉 Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month🎉

We’re proud to announce the winners of our 2nd Annual Middle School Black History Month Essay Contest:

🥇 1st Place: Vincent Tran, 6th Grade – Farristown
🥈 2nd Place: Eleanor Smith, 8th Grade – Foley
🥉 3rd Place: Hana Abdelhay, 6th Grade – Madison Middle

This year, as we marked 100 years of Black History Month, students explored the powerful stories of Mary Rice Farris and the United States Colored Troops (USCT) from Kentucky. Their effort and thoughtfulness truly showed as we celebrated at Lake Buck Lodge this past Saturday.

A special thank you to the teachers, counselors, and principals, seeing you there supporting your students matters!

To the parents, thank you for being the foundation behind every student’s success.

We’re grateful to Dr. Sharonda Steele for an inspiring message at our celebratory breakfast.

Thank you to the Association for Teaching Black History in Kentucky for your continued support.

And thank you to IHOP for a wonderful breakfast, and Cold Stone Creamery - Hamburg Pavilion for the generous gift cards.

Proud of every student who participated. The future is bright. ✨

📝 This one’s filling up fast and only a few spots remain!

As we celebrate 100 years of Black History Month, we’re proud to continue that legacy through our Middle School Black History Month Essay Contest. What began in 1926 as Negro History Week, founded by Carter G. Woodson, has grown into a century-long commitment to education and honoring Black history.

Last year’s contest was a great success, and this year has already seen strong interest. Registration is filling quickly, with only a limited number of spots left. We’re excited to see students explore local Black history through their writing.

We’re super excited to welcome Dr. Sharonda Steele as our guest speaker at our celebratory breakfast!
