We have a few spots left in Don Weber's Tools and Stools workshop this weekend! We went over to his shop this week to check out what he's been working on. We're excited for the opportunity to continue hosting his traditional craft opportunities at the Berea Makerspace. Signups are on our website, bereamakerspace.org/calendar

Spend the weekend learning traditional tool making and applying it on a simple project. This class is appropriate for all skill levels.

On day one, you'll be building a bow saw. Don will be demoing three styles, from a simpler version for general carpentry, to a scroll saw like version for intricate forms (you are heavily encouraged to build the carpentry one however). This is the focus of our weekend.

On day two, you'll use that tool to cut out your oak seat, with legs being formed with a draw knife and tenon cutter. Hopefully, by the end of that day, your project will be complete (or you'll have the tools and insight to finish it yourself!)

Thanks to everyone who showed up for our third Hammer-In this weekend! We're thankful to continue this event despite our change in traditional craft funding. Extremely grateful for those who came to present as well, and for Jeff Farmer's continued leadership.

Like what you saw? Don Weber has Campfire forging with Don Weber in June, and Bob will continue with his beginner and continuing blacksmithing workshops in July. Jeff Farmer is also conducting Learnshop sessions in July through Berea Tourism. All this can be found on our event calendar, bereamakerspace.org/calendar =)

Guys! Did you know we have multiple weekend workshops happening in May and early June that aren't even half full? While we've not been able to have our (traditional) Traditional Craft season like the last 4 years, we were able to work with local and traveling artists to get these set up as affordably as possible. If you've ever considered learning green woodworking or blacksmithing, this is one of your best opportunities this year, and signing up helps us gauge interest in future events. All event registrations are on our website at BereaMakerspace.org/calendar

In partnership with members of the Blacksmiths of Kentucky Facebook group, and with help from our perennial blacksmith instructor Jeff Farmer, we're hosting a Hammer In event. This is a chance for smiths of all skill levels to come out, meeting other makers, hammer some iron, and enrich the blacksmithing community of Eastern Kentucky.

- Jeff plans on leading demos during the day, and we encourage others to do the same. If you want to let us know in advance what you'd like to show off, feel free to reach out to Jess or Jeff
-Even if you don't want to hammer, spectating is allowed and encouraged!
-Participation is free
-Young folk are encouraged to come, but we reserve the right to refuse hammer time if safety becomes a concern.
-Please fill out a liability form for any potential kids here (on site or through the quick release on the event page)
-Bringing a dish for our potluck lunch is highly encouraged.
-"Iron in the Hat" - bring something you want to raffle off, buy raffle tickets for a dollar. Winners will be drawn in the afternoon, and the proceeds will be used to help fund further blacksmithing events at the Berea Makerspace! Max of 500 raffle tickets will be distributed at $1 each.
