Kaitlin Barrick from Second Mile Outreach was at our meeting to receive a check from our Empty
Bowl fundraiser. Kaitlin spoke about how Second Mile services individuals, families and veterans
dealing with food insecurities. They also provide Christmas gifts to needy families. They have
served over 3000 veterans. A significant number of those served are Berea residents.

Tonight we wrapped up our Child Comfort Bag project by making 40 more bags, bringing our total to an incredible 120 comfort bags for our police, EMS, and fire departments!

What made tonight especially meaningful to me was having our Berea Community Aktion Club join us in helping assemble the bags alongside several amazing community volunteers. The Aktion Club is a community service group that gives adults with disabilities the opportunity to lead through service, build friendships, and make a direct impact in their community. Watching everyone work side by side tonight with such kindness, excitement, and pride was truly special and exactly what community is all about.

These comfort bags are designed to help children during difficult or traumatic situations when first responders are called. Each bag includes comforting items to help provide a small sense of calm, security, and support during moments that can feel scary and overwhelming for a child.

I am beyond grateful for every volunteer, donation, and helping hand that made this project possible. Our community showed up in such a big way these last two days, and my heart is so full seeing what we can accomplish together!
