If you haven’t been by the Cottages at Corning In Frankfort, you’d be amazed at the progress! Yesterday, we had the pleasure of presenting the Housing Trust of Benzie our gifts totaling $20,050. We toured a two story home under construction. The work is first class and coming together perfectly. This home has a living room, kitchen area, pantry, half bath, and garage on the lower level. The upper level includes two bedrooms with impressive storage, full bath, and laundry room. For additional information regarding the Housing Trust of Benzie - https://www.housingtrustofbenzie.org/

Despite the cold, dreary weather, 93 members attended our first meeting of 2026. We always learn so much about the plans for area non-profits and the people they serve.

Bianca McLaren spoke on behalf of Crystal Lake Co-Operative Preschool. The Co-Operative model includes parental participation and half- day sessions that are perfect for many families. If awarded our gifts, the preschool would like to keep tuition stable and offset rising costs of operation.

The Housing Trust of Benzie is busy completing the multi- home build on Corning Ave. in Frankfort. The group is actively seeking properties throughout our county to build homes for our middle income workers who have been priced out of the area market. Set up to be a long term solution to the housing crisis, these homes, when sold, will once again be purchased by qualifying full-time residents who are employed within Benzie County. Jackie Borozan asked for our support to help keep the homes’ purchase price affordable.

The Fiends of Betsie Valley Trail was represented by Avace Wilde and Jim Gribble. The Trail offers the benefits of fresh air and community connectivity to all our residents, regardless of physical or financial limitations. Work is planned at access points to improve parking and restroom facilities. While applying for Grants and increasing fundraising efforts, our gifts would help the group meet their goals more quickly.

Our October 1st meeting marked the beginning of our eighth year of FUNdraising for our community! STRONG ON OUR OWN! STRONGER TOGETHER!

Michigan Legacy Art Park- Angie Quinn shared impressive comments and letters from community educators, residents of and visitors to our area. The Michigan Legecy Art Park provides opportunities for cultural and natural history brought to life through art on the 31-acre wooded preserve. Our checks would fund upgrades to the entrance checkpoint allowing for staffing during cooler months.

Benzie Senior Resources - Brigit Hassig let us know that Benzie Senior Resources serves 5,000 Meals on Wheels each month! The organization has a need for updated kitchen appliances to maintain this level of service.

Thompsonville Area Revitalization Project ( T.A.R.P.) - Jane Purkis filled us in on the group’s plans to create an attractive and historically compelling trailhead on the Betsie Valley Trail, near the site of the historic Thompsonville Junction, for bicyclists, walkers, and visitors to relax, enjoy, and appreciate the history of a once robust town and rail crossing that played a significant role in the growth and development of Benzie County and Northwest Michigan.

Three 5-minute presentations -The 92 members attending voted to support Benzie Senior Resources this quarter. Congratulations to Benzie Senior Resources! And cheers to all our presenters since October, 2018 that have stepped up to the podium with heartfelt words that inform and inspire all of us to care.

Mary Jo Hamlin was pleased to offer our gifts totaling $19,600 to 22 2 NONE Board members Josh Peterson (Army), Veterans Outreach; Ray McDaniel ( Marines) President; and Emily Escajeda (Navy), Treasurer. Working to assist Northern Michigan Veterans in any of the struggles they may be facing, the organization recently purchased the South Boardman Elementary School and continues to create a safe space for temporary housing, camaraderie, special events, and encouragement. Our gifts will be used to carry out their mission in Benzie County/Benzie county Veterans. Check out their organization at https://www.222none.org/

Three names drawn from a hat. Five minutes to make the case and another five for questions. Then we vote. It was a very close vote!

1. Everyday approximately 22 veterans take their own lives. Mary Jo Hamlin used her 5 minutes to inform us of 22 2 none (https://www.222none.org/) efforts to assist local struggling veterans.

2.Susan Wood followed highlighting the services provided at Hope House (https://hopehousenwmi.com/). Located in Frankfort, the home for young pregnant women offers support, stability, and education during this transformative time in their lives.

3. Michigan Legacy Art Park (https://michlegacyartpark.org/) offers 31 acres of cultural and historical pieces. Angie Quinn told us of the Park’s challenges as they face funding cuts and maintenance costs unique to outdoor works of art..

THE WINNER… 22 2 NONE
