The Great Michigan Gathering is about to begin! Please join us Thursday, October 8th at 7pm on the Upper Level of the Mills Community House for the Great Michigan Gathering Kickoff!

What is the Great Michigan Gathering? The Great Michigan Gathering is the Michigan Humanities’ free, three year initiative. Each year deepens the work of the previous year by using a framework that builds on connection, awareness, sharing, understanding, truth and growth.

What will happen at the kickoff event? There will be a watch party featuring Priya Parker, author of The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters. The watch party will tune into the kickoff event’s livestream, featuring a conversation between Priya Parker and Michigan Humanities' president and CEO, Jennifer Rupp. They will discuss the importance of gathering intentionally, why gatherings matter today, how individuals can build connection and community and why gathering is essential to the humanities.

Benzonia Public Library, Benzie Area Historical Society and Museum, Mills Community House and theMichigan Humanities invite you to join us for an evening of community and connection.

Desserts and Refreshments will be served. Free and open to the community.
Doors open at 6:30pm.

**There are additional viewings taking place in Benzie County at the Garden Theater in Frankfort and the Elberta Heritage Center in Elberta.**

📢 Open Auditions 📢

This year’s annual holiday play will be “Stone Soup” adapted by Colleen Neumann. The 30 minute play will be followed by live recitations of popular holiday and winter themed poems and story excerpts such as “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement C. Moore, Fezziwig’s Ball from “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, and more! Roles are available for people of all ages. No experience necessary.

The hour long program will open Saturday November 28 and run for 2 days.

Auditions will be held today, September 16, from 6:30-8:00 on the LOWER LEVEL of Mills Community House.

The Seabury Foundation will be at Mills Community House this Thursday (September 17) for their annual Benzie Connects program! We are so happy to host them this year.

This year’s panel features Jackie Borozan of Housing Trust of Benzie and Jon Throop of Benzie Conservation District. Together they will lead a facilitated discussion on the need for affordable housing and also protecting our natural resources.

Mills Community House announces open auditions for Holiday Homecoming performance

Benzonia, MI - The Mills Community House is looking for performers of all ages to fill roles in this year’s Holiday Homecoming performance, “Stone Soup and Other Stories.” Auditions will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 6:30-8pm on the lower level of the Mills, and the performance will take place Thanksgiving weekend.

Local actors interested in participating should plan to arrive at 6:30pm. The evening will begin with an informal meeting to answer questions and provide more information about the show and rehearsal schedule. Each person will then be asked to read a selection from the script. You may be asked to stay and read an additional piece with a partner. No advance preparation or memorized audition is required.

“Stone Soup” has roles for six youth of any age and gender, though all participants must be able to read and memorize their lines. The “Other Stories” are a selection of holiday classics with roles for six adults of any gender.

This is the third year The Mills has produced a play for Holiday Homecoming, and they hope it’s becoming a tradition for local families in town for Thanksgiving. Questions about the auditions can be directed to [email protected].
