When I started OpenStringZ several years ago, I could have never imagined all of the twists and turns of this special non-profit...a combination of blood,(think falling into music stands) sweat, (think a studio (The Music Box) without air conditioning ;) tears and a few miracles-It has been amazing to look back at the many talented students who would cross our path. They have been incredibly inspiring to all who have been involved. As we say goodbye to 2025 and our graduating seniors (Nina included) I am grateful for the memories, hard work, learning and teaching we have all shared! Hope you can make it to this special, student-curated event!

We’re so excited to share something truly special with you — a rare behind-the-scenes video featuring Professor Emeritus Malinee Jayasinghe-Peris, a legendary pianist and cherished mentor to our OpenStringZ students! 🎹✨

At 96 years old, Professor Peris is still inspiring the next generation with the same grace and brilliance that took her from Sri Lanka to the Royal College of Music in London, studying under Louis Kentner and Leon Fleisher, and performing across the globe — from Warsaw to New York.

She’s a Chopin Competition prizewinner, a Steinway Artist, and a radiant soul who’s been guiding our students since 2021. This video gives you a glimpse of her warmth, humor, and deep artistry as she prepares for our upcoming concert.
