Oaxaca Youth Empowerment Oaxaca Youth Empowerment funds educational expenses that provide supplemental academic and other services that enhance the well being of Oaxacan students.

Our program is funded through sponsorhips and other donations. Each child in our program has a sponsor that supports their schooling. Sponsorhips are $250.00 and provide the opportunity for a child to study and work towardsa bright future.

🍽️ For children ages 7 to 9, Oaxaca has the highest risk of chronic malnutrition in the country, 39.8% (Save the Children, Atlas de Riesgos para la Nutrición de la Niñez en México). Last August, Centro de Esperanza Infantil noticed many kids at summer camp were arriving without breakfast, so breakfast service jumped to 442 meals that month alone, with the support of OYE donors.

📊 In Mexico, 3 in 10 people will face a mental health condition in their lifetime, and 2 out of 3 never receive treatment (IMSS, 2023). Access is even harder outside big cities. In March 2025 alone, the psychology program at Casa Emilie held 42 sessions with children and families, made possible with the support of OYE donors. Because every child deserves someone to talk to.

Young people are the future AND the present, and at OYE, we believe every young person deserves the tools to stay in school and build the life they imagine.

🌾 August 9 is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. Oaxaca has the largest Indigenous population of any state in Mexico, at 26.3% (INEGI, 2025). Yet nationally, 19.1% of Indigenous people over 15 cannot read or write, compared to just 2.8% of the non-Indigenous population (INEGI, 2025). At OYE, we work to close that gap, so every child, regardless of background, has access to education.
