Next Sunday, September 6, we are asking our entire community to come out and eat with us.

We are having a rebate day for Cuba Volunteer Fire Department. A percentage of proceeds from our lunch buffet will be donated to help them recover after their fire department fire on August 13.

They lost crucial equipment & suffered damage to their building..equipment they depend on to serve our communities.

Let’s have their back and show them we support all they do.

Mark your calendars and come eat with us. Every person who walks through our doors September 6 is helping make a difference.

East Marshall Fire Department

Bill “Tex” Johnson has dedicated more than five decades to the fire service, including 40 years in Kentucky. His career began in 1968 when he joined the East Joliet Volunteer Fire Department. He earned his certification in 1974 and went on to serve on multiple industrial fire brigades, including units at Texaco Oil, Crystal Oil, Monsanto Chemical, GAF Chemical, ISP Chemical, and Ashland Chemical.
In 1986, Tex relocated to Kentucky and joined the Grand Lakes Fire Department before settling in Marshall County with the East Marshall Fire Department. He has remained with East Marshall for 40 years and has served as Chief for approximately 35 of those years. Under his leadership, the department has constructed three new stations to replace aging facilities and those damaged by the 2021 tornado. Work is underway to replace the final older station. Tex also serves on the board of directors for Haz-Mat 1, where he is a charter member, and helped establish a fire boat capability to support fire and rescue operations on the lakes and rivers in the region.

Tex has been involved with the Kentucky Firefighters Association for roughly 30 years and currently serves as a Director for the Jackson Purchase Firefighters Association.

Outside the fire service, Tex enjoys cars, fi****ms, and outdoor activities. He and his wife, Becky, share a deep appreciation for the bonds formed through the fire service.

When asked for a memorable experience or fun fact, Tex simply points to “my firefighter family.”

His long tenure as a department chief, industrial firefighter, regional association delegate, and charter Haz-Mat leader reflects a career built on steady leadership, practical problem-solving, and commitment to both his community and the broader Kentucky fire service.

If your department is interested in applying for a Thermal Vision and Technical Innovation Grant to be awarded Fiscal Year 2027, here are the steps to access the application:

-Log into KyFIRES - https://kyfires.acadisonline.com/acadisviewer/login.aspx
-Hover over Webforms and Resources on the left menu bar
-Select WebForm
-Click on FY2027 Thermal Vision and Technical Innovation Grant Application

If selected, your department will be reimbursed 50% of the purchase cost of one (1) technical innovation device, with a maximum reimbursement of $5000.00. A technical innovation device is defined as an automated external defibrillator, gas monitor or thermal vision camera. Proof of purchase and payment will be required prior to reimbursement (KRS 95A.430)

Application may only be completed and submitted by authorized KyFIRES users ( i.e. those who are able to enter training and personnel records).

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wednesday Sept. 30th at 5:00 pm EST.

Grants will be awarded based on a date stamp return AND eligibility as per KRS 95A.440.

KRS 95A.440 requires a two-year non-eligibility period. If your department was awarded the Thermal Vision grant in the past two fiscal years you ARE NOT eligible to apply at this time. The award lists for FY25 & FY26 are provided in the comments.

Hendron Fire Department will be hosting a Rope Rescue Technician course on October 10th, 11th ,17th and 18th. The class will be held in McCracken County. Students must attend all 4 days and complete all skills to recieve a certificate of completion. This will be a mentally and physically challenging course. There will be alot of working at heights on ropes during the high angle portion.
Prerequisites for this class are a previous basic ropes training, the ability to tie basic fire knots (family of 8's, bowline, hitches, etc..).

These courses are offered through grants awarded by Kentucky Department of Emergency Management and will be presented by Ky State Fire Rescue Training instructors Chris Peeler and Chris Newton.
