Weekly Devotion

I’ve been trying to find a simple way to understand why God sent Jesus to die for the removal of my sin debt.
You see, I know my God is a loving God. The creator of all, the one who says…
In 2nd Peter 3:9b
“He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

We at Outside The Walls Ministries come in contact with parents who dispite their best efforts, have children who go in and out of Jail and prision.
These parents love their children and would do anything to get them out of trouble and back on the right track. Time and time again they have been bailed out, fines paid, court costs, attorney fees and so on.
That’s what loving parents do.

As I think about this and how it connects to my Heavenly Father, I see God bailing me out time and time again.

His hope is that if I’m freed from my sin debt that I would repent.

But first there’s a price to be paid for my freedom.

Jesus paid that price.

Sin is not without cost, but why did Jesus have to die?

As a parent we would give our own life, our own blood, that our children could live a life that is pleasing to God. We would pay that ultimate price.

That’s what God did.
Jesus as one in mind and Spirit with God, came to earth, lived a sinless life, and took our sentence upon Himself.

Ezekiel 36:26 tells us what happens inside of us when repentance leads the way.

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

When we truly repent and accept Jesus as our Savior, the one who willingly went to the cross for our sins, then and only then will we find the pathway to true redemption.

Give it some thought. If you accepted Christ as your Savior that’s awesome. If your still trying to figure all this out, dive into God’s Holy word the Bible, or reach out to someone you trust, someone without a ulterior motive, someone who will tell you what Jesus’s sacrifice means to them.

We at Outside The Walls Ministries are involved in several areas of ministry. From feeding, mentoring, guiding men and women to faith based rehabs, to the upcoming Chapel of the King.
But underneath all this is the hope that you and those around you will accept Jesus as your Savior, for you to be freed.
Not just because He died for your sins, but because He rose from the grave 3 days later.
Jesus isn’t dead He’s alive sitting at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf.

Yo‭‭ur place has been taken and the cell door has been opened, but you have to walk through into freedom.
Don’t forsake this opportunity being offered to you.
Be set free!!!

The ladies of Outside The Walls Ministries did a amazing job preparing this evenings Pot Pie Meal.
Yes there are people who count on these meals each week. They tell us there are weeks it helps them have enough food to get through the week. While others look forward to the fellowship. For many, our Knock and Pray servants are the only ones they have fellowship with.
Yes, some folks are hungry and many are lonely.
For us to pray with and for those we serve its a honor, not to mention those begin to trust us and eventually turn their lives over to Jesus.

Thank you Jesus for letting us serve others in your name.

Update on the Chapel of the King.

Many of you know Outside The Walls Ministries has acquired a church located at 311 5th street in Benton Ar.

We have worked tirelessly for months now trying to update this building that was previously known as East Side Baptist Church.
If all goes well and the Lord is willing, we will have a open house sometime in June, and then our first service hopefully a few days later.

We will be using the Chapel for several things, but our intent is to first start having a Sunday evening service (5-6pm).
It’s unfortunate but many folks are not comfortable going to some of our local churches. I don’t believe this is because of anything the churches have done, but because of perception.

This new Chapel is intended for those who want a smaller more intimate atmosphere. A place where relationships can be made and folks can learn about Jesus.
Many believe everyone in Saline County knows who Jesus is and that they know the Bible, but that’s simply not true.
I didn’t start leaning about our Lord untill I was in my 30’s though I started attending in my 20’s.

If you have read the Bible for years your welcome to come, if you never opened it or never heard the name of Jesus, your welcome. If your curious about why some folks live in faith regardless of their circumstances, this Chapel is for you.
Folks, there is a peace that comes from a personal relationship with God, with Jesus.
It can rarely be explained, but it can always be found when we put our trust in Jesus, the Son of God.
I’ve been asked what denomination are we?
We are not a denomination, we are God’s children and all of us corporately are one body of believers, we are what is referred to as the bride of Christ.
We believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and was crucified on a cross. We believe He was resurrected on the 3rd day after His death, was seen by many, assended to Heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf.

I know that’s a lot, but come to the Chapel and see what God is doing through the lives of His believers.

Our platform for the Chapel is not to just have one preacher, but many who will come and teach us about our Lord.
We will also have testimonies.
A testimony is someone telling us about the miraculous things Jesus has done in their lives.

I could go on and on but let me close with this.

You are welcome at The Chapel of The King. You will hear the true word of God, it won’t be distorted to fit any agenda.
You will know that not only does Jesus love you, but so do we.
You and your children now have a place to learn, to be discipled and to grow.

Until then let me leave you with my 2 favorite verses.

Phillipians 4:12-13
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him (Jesus) who gives me strength.”

Weekly Devotion

Jesus calls His first Disciples in
Mark 1:16-20

16 Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”[a] 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

While listening to one of our local dedicated preachers preach a funeral for a friend of mine this week, he brought up the significance of these verses. How when Jesus calls us we should immediately release anything holding us back from following Jesus.

Think about what these men gave up. Their livelihood, their family, the comfort of their homes, their friends, all of which took courage to follow a man they knew little about.
But what did they actually give up? Their needs were met, they never lacked for anything. I would argue they became followers at the same time they became part of the family of God.

Today its certainly possible that following Jesus may also cost us some of the same, but let it be clear that the cost is not one for which there is no dividend.
Our lives are investments when we turn them over to Jesus. We don’t sell ourselves to become slaves, but voluntarily give our lives as bond servants to the King.

When Jesus calls us to follow Him there are sins we must immediately let go of to be true followers of the Messiah. These sins once left behind don’t leave us feeling as though we lost something, but that we’ve been set free from what has truly bound us to a world full of heartache and sin.

Is there anything you’ve yet to let go of that can be keeping you from having total freedom in Christ?
If so say this prayer…….
Lord I know that I’ve committed to follow you, but I have held onto _________ and I know it has interfered with my ability to totally follow you as you have called me to do.
So today I release the sin of __________ and I am immediately letting it go to truly follow you.
In Jesus name. Amen.

Remember, total freedom is found in total submission.
Then and only then can we have the freeedom that only comes in Christ.

Weekly Devotion

Quoting from the Pilgrims Progress, written in 1678 by John Bunyan.....
"The bitter must come before the sweet, and that will also make the sweet the sweeter."

The phrase "that's a bitter pill to swallow" is also true, not only in the metaphorical, but also in the actual.
Have you ever had a headache or other pain that was debilitating?
You reach for a pill, take it, then look for water to wash it down, but for some reason it takes longer to get to the water than you expected.
The pill that you've taken to bring you comfort has now started to dissolve and a incredible bitterness suddenly engulfs your taste buds.
In the midst of the bitterness you franticly reach for water to wash this unexpected trial away.
Though it may take a while, the pill then starts working and soon after, relief comes, bringing a comfort that was more appreciated (sweeter) than before the bitterness arrived.

Our lives are ever changing. The good and the bad of life both come without warning.
The only guarantee is the love of God, of Christ, but we have to stay conscious of that truth, and live as if we’re wrapped in a blanket of comfort provided by the Holy Spirit.

It is likely our daily walk will have less of an affect on others when we're in a season of sweetness, but it can most certainly have the greatest affect on those who may or may not know Christ, as they watch us willingly and patiently go through seasons of great bitterness.

So where do we find the sweet in seasons of utter trials?

Jesus said in John 14:27....
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In John 14:16 Jesus had said He will ask the Father to send the Advocate, the Holy Spirit so we may find comfort in the Spirit of God.
A comfort that is always available if we would just rely on God, knowing that true comfort is found in Him and Him alone.

Have you ever watched the face of a child when they taste something bitter?
That snarling of the face is what some see in and on us when we don't rely on the Holy Spirit in seasons of trials.
As Christians, someone is always watching us to see how we will react when trials enter our life. If we act with comfort and peace, it may just open a door for another to ask “how are you handling this so well?”

Our goal is to lead others to Christ. So if we’re not setting a example to cause the world to want what we have, we’re not walking the talk.

There will be a day when our battle is over and we open our eyes in the presence of our Lord.
Then and only then will there be no more tears and no more sorrow.
God said in revelation 21:4
“‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.””
‭‭
Until then brothers and sisters, let’s live a life finding the sweetness of God amongst the bitterness this world has to offer.

Weekly Devotion……

What excites you most?

For some it’s their favorite sports team, others a paycheck, children, grand children, a new vehicle or a home, but for a few it’s their Spiritual Relationship with God.

So just as we want to share with each other the above mentioned personal items, do we feel the same about sharing what God through His Son has done for us?

A young lady who had lost much but was restored told me, “how can I say no to working for the Lord when He’s done so much for me?”

Luke 12:48b From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

I see here two major points.

1-God has given some, financial blessings, and with that a greater level of stewardship is required.
Having larger financial resources should birth giving to expand the kingdom of God.
I don’t believe out of obligation, but out of thankfulness for what the Lord has done for us.
If you haven’t learned Acts 20:35b “it is more blessed to give than receive”.
Do so with a cheerful heart and feel a joy of inexpressible delight.

2- There are those of us who have made decisions that caused us to spiral out of control to the point we lost our friends, family, jobs, homes and our relationship with God.
But just like the father of the prodigal son was waiting, so is our Heavenly Father.

Those who realize the error of the their ways and turn to a new or restored relationship with Jesus, with God. Their level of thankfulness should draw a degree of gratitude from deep down in their souls. A thankfulness I’m not sure others can understand.

I have been asking myself this week, am I truly greatfull and does my labor, personality and financial giving reflect my blessings?

At about three years old our oldest granddaughter was being scolded by her mother. She was told to stop what she was doing, but instead, immediately held her hand up ✋to mom and said…. “Stop and let me tell you what the Lord has done for me”.

Maybe we should intentionally stop✋and tell the world what the Lord has done for us?

Weekly Devotion

Can you walk through the door?

God has blessed Outside The Walls Ministries with a church building that we refer to as the Chapel.
We’re doing a considerable amount of renovation, both in the building and under it.

The building sits on blocks and has a crawl space the entire width and length of the structure.
The crawl space is accessed by way of a door about 3 foot by 4 foot.
While under the building looking for a water leak this week a cat came in the open door.
I didn’t see the cat, but fortunately my buddy did or the cat would have been locked up inside and would have eventually died a terrible death.

The cat eventually heard my friends voice calling her to come through the open door before it was closed.

You and I are a lot like our friendly neighborhood cat.
We eat everyday, we have our needs met, and for the most part we’re good people just living life.

The cat heard my friends voice and accepted the invitation for her to walk through the open door.
Jesus tells us in His word that there is a metaphorical door that leads into the presence of God, and one day that door will be closed, and if we haven’t walked through it to freedom, we will suffer an eternity of pain and suffering seperated from God.
In Luke 13:25 Jesus said…..
“Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.”

Folks, there is no promise of tomorrow, you may die unexpectedly today, or you may live for years, you don’t know!

If you die without knowing Jesus as your Savior the door to a eternity with God will close and there is nothing you can say or do for it to be opened.
It doesn’t matter how good a person you are, without Jesus the door will be closed.

Please consider Jesus’s invitation to accept Him as your Savior before it’s to late. “He wishes that no one should perish, but everyone to come to repentance ( 2nd Peter 3:9b).

If you’ve never accepted Jesus as your Savior you can do it now, right where your at. There’s no magic word or works you need to do, just have a conversation with God, repent of your sins and ask Jesus into your heart.

That’s how you start a personal relationship with our Lord, a relationship that will lead you through the open door to an eternity with God.
If you listen closely, you can hear God’s Spirit drawing you to Him.

Weekly Devotion

From Uncle Brad’s Chair.
——
In our den, next to a window sits a 100 year old wooden rocking chair. The window is draped with a dark pull up/down shade. Sort of a modern version of the originals.
The old rocker sits empty most days, but the nights and early morning hours are another story.

This old rocker is where the Lord and I spend our quality time.
It’s not a place of study, it’s a place of prayer.

When I sit down the first thing I do is reach over and pull up the shade.
Some mornings the sky is litup with its twinkling stars as if they were create just for our viewing pleasure.

Not to be outdone the moon on these mornings shines brightly, all aglow, casting its gentle light softly to the ground.
Others times I see clouds, or the leafs from the big oaks dancing in a gentle breeze.

The view is rarely the same as the previous night, but regardless of the outside conditions, my Father is always there waiting to spend one on one time with His child.

Jesus gave us examples of how important it is to spend time alone with God.
In Luke 6:12 He prayed all night before choosing His apostles.

Again in Mathew 26:39 He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane not for His will to be done, but the Fathers.

There are other recorded times where Jesus spent time alone with the Father, but the question here is…….
Are you spending time alone with the Father talking and listening?

We have a need and a responsibility to spend time in His word, but if that’s all we do, we’ve gained knowledge, not a relationship with God.

Find a place without noise or interruption, talk and listen to what the Spirit is telling you.

Relationships are built when people spend time with each other. Our relationship with God the Father, His Holy Spirit and His Son are no different.

Find your quiet spot and spend time with our Creator.
Don’t forsake this Gift He is allowing us to open in His presence.

Share
