YouthBuild - Benton Harbor

Our youth build character, relationships, and community while they earn training and certification.

Participants 16-24 years of age and will benefit from the following:
- A chance to earn a GED or High School Diploma (Partnered with Bridge Academy)
- Become certified in competitive industries
- Receive a daily stipend and supportive services
- Connect with apprenticeships and/or employment
- Learn valuable life skills
- Make life-long friendships

Berrien, Cass, Van Buren is hosting a Free Mobile Food Pantry on Monday, February 12 at 4:00pm at their Benton Harbor Service Center, located at 499 W Main St. All in need are welcome to stop by. Simply tell them how many individuals are in your household and receive free food for you and your family. See you there!

YouthBuild - Benton Harbor will be closed for an all staff training on Friday, February 9. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, February 12.

YouthBuild - Benton Harbor will be closed on Monday, January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We honor Dr. King's legacy, and "the timeless values he taught through his example — courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service." We will resume normal hours on Tuesday, January 16.

Memories were made at our YouthBuild - Benton Harbor Holiday Party! Our youth played trivia, decorated cards and cookies, and everyone left with a gift. 🎁 We truly enjoyed seeing our youth connect with each other and our staff. We look forward to another year of supporting youth as they pursue and achieve their goals. Happy New Year!

Our year in review: In 2023, YouthBuild - Benton Harbor students built 67 desks for students in need while practicing their construction skills. We also assisted 17 students in completing Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate trainings. We're so proud of our students for their accomplishments!

We're here to support youth in becoming the best version of themselves. ✨ Meet Amanda. She came to YouthBuild - Benton Harbor unsure on how to meet her goals, but throughout her time with us, Amanda embarked on a path of self-discovery and empowerment. Our team provided her with more consistency than she has had in the past 10 years, and she achieved the milestone of earning a PACT certificate. Amanda's story is a testament to the program's commitment to fostering personal growth and educational attainment, paving the way for her to build a brighter future.

We're thankful for the amazing youth building their future at YouthBuild - Benton Harbor! We will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24 in observance of Thanksgiving. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, November 27. We hope you enjoy the holiday!

What is YouthBuild - Benton Harbor? Over the past couple years, our youth have been building character, relationships, and community. Students ages 16-24 have earned training and certification in construction and healthcare, connected with apprenticeship/employment opportunities, as well as opportunities to complete post-secondary education with Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan.
We're looking forward to seeing everything our youth will continue to accomplish!

Who We Are

Youthbuild USA is a national program and there are roughly 260 individual programs throughout the nation. Through Youthbuild, low income out of school youth, ages 16-24, are given the opportunity to earn their high school diploma or GED while also learning valuable construction trade skills through the rebuilding of houses, playgrounds, and community centers.

The local program is run by Kinexus Group in partnership with the Department of Labor and our participants are able to improve their neighborhood by increasing the availability of safe, affordable housing. Once the house is finished, it will be sold to a low-income family in the community. Our participants in Youthbuild then go on to find meaningful, fulfilling employment, armed with an education they may not have received otherwise.
