This picture was taken on February 26th at Sarett Nature Center and shows the remains of a Monotropa uniflora plant aka Ghost Pipe or Indian Pipe. It is a fascinating plant that has no chlorophyll and cannot photosynthesize. They are able to receive nutrients indirectly from trees through from mycorrhizal fungi in the soil surrounding the tree.

LMC Botany Club is hosting a Seed Swap for all students and faculty to attend. There will be a selection of vegetable, flower and herb seed to exchange or to take for those who don't have seed to swap. Botany Club members will be available to answer questions and assist in seed selection. There will be a free raffle for garden themed prizes and snacks will be provided.

Ever tried winter sowing? It's a fantastic way for gardeners to get a head start on their planting for the early spring by recycling old milk jugs or in this case using gallon size freezer bags to make a small shelter for hardy plants such as calendula and cosmos flowers or early greens like kale and spinach.
