Today was doctoring day for Zac. Both legs look really good. So good in fact one wasn't doctored at all. He has a leg cover to hopefully let all the new skin growth get a chance to toughen up on that one and a teeny tiny bandage on the other mostly to keep it clean in our dusty, environment. Still don't know if the hair will grow back, but his skin is black, so the scarring shouldn't be very noticeable unless it stays pink. He sure is a pretty boy, today he was standing parallel to the corral panel in his pen. I reached through and started scratching his withers and back. He stood for about 10-15 seconds and walked away without "drama". He likes women and seems willing to give us a chance to treat him fairly. He is still playing with some of the boys and ignoring the girls....!!!!!

Forever Home Donkey Rescue & Sanctuary is a nonprofit, all-volunteer refuge whose mission is to help donkeys in need of rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming. Are you planning your November events? We have two special events coming up that support the Forever Home Donkey Rescue & Sanctuary:

1. Superior Hee Haw Hustle Pack Burro Race

- Date: November 14th
- Location: Superior, Arizona
- Join us for a great family-friendly burro race! This event brings tourism to beautiful Superior, and all profits support our rescue. Come see what all the hoopla is about!

2. Annual Holibray Kickoff

- Date: November 21st (the Saturday before Thanksgiving)
- Get into the holiday spirit with self-guided tours, complimentary lunch, kids' crafts and games, live music, and plenty of donkey love!

About a week ago I put a picture of Zac's leg and what it looked like in August after surgery. It looked like a bloody piece of meat from knee to fetlock. It was 2 years of habronema larvae having a great time trying to find a stomach to complete their life cycle. I doubt seriously if any made it to his stomach, but in the meantime I would imagine that leg was pretty miserable without medical care.

Below is how it looked about a week ago when we were doing a bandage change. Quite a difference...!! He's been going out on the property with the other donkeys. He's not bothering the girls and is playing with the boys. When we let him out to mingle the first day, we didn't know how much trouble it would be to get him back in his pen. We're still waiting for that to be a problem. He is very observant and seems to want to "go along to get along".....!! He's a very nice pretty boy, that hasn't had any training and doesn't seem to hold a grudge. Cookies seem to make his world go round and around...!! He and Beefy the mammoth seem to be hanging around with each other. Beefy is really mellow, so that might be a good match.

The other picture is his fetlock on the other front leg. He laid down a lot I guess and ended up with a sore. We hadn't cleaned it when this was taken, it looks better when it's ready to be re-bandaged.
