The club decided that we wanted to have groomed trails for the public to ride, so in 1995 we applied to the DNR for Grant in Aid money for the trails. We started with two trails one going from Benson to Starbuck and the other south to connect with the Montevideo trails. In 2004 the members decided to construct a building to house the 2 groomers, equipment, signs, and a meeting room. Many of the me
mbers spend a great deal of time on the maintenance of the groomers and the trails. All club meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month year round. Each year the members volunteer to help with the instruction of the snowmobile safety classes for the kids. We also have family fun rides that include riding one of the trails and ending with a hot dog roast or lunch at the club house. During the year we hold fundraisers to help with the cost of maintenance on the groomers and other expenses. We hold a Bingo Blast night in the Spring and in the fall we have a Gun Raffle. In the Summer we host a Landownerβs Picnic at the groomer building. This is a supper to thank all the landowners who allow us put the trails on their property. Without landowners giving us permission to cross their land, we would not be able to have the excellent trail system that we have in place now. They are greatly appreciated by all who use the trails. The Northern Lights Trails has recently expanded their trails by adding 72 miles. We will now be going to Swift Falls, Sunburg, Kerkhoven, Murdock, and DeGraff. In order to keep these trails in excellent condition they need to be groomed weekly. The Northern Lights Trails club is asking for help with the grooming. If you are interested in being a groomer operator please contact one of the Board members. Must be a member of the Northern Lights Trails snowmobile club and be 21 years old. The club members volunteer their time to groom the trails.
