K-9 Connection is a 501(c)(3) subset of Lead the Way Dog Training with two major branches: Responsible Rehoming and K-9 Heroes. Our Responsible Rehoming initiative strives to match great dogs with their ideal families. We have a small foster program. All of our rescue dogs receive t

he training and care they need to be successful after adoption, and our adoptive families know they can turn to us for support during and following their included training appointments. This has resulted in a lower return rate, a lower euthanasia rate, and many happy families! Our K-9 Heroes program is our service dog program. We recognize that there are many people with disabilities in need of a service dog's assistance, and that the more traditional routes of owner-training or program-training can be prohibitive for many reasons. Our assisted owner-training program allows the service dog training process to be personalized to the individual, ensuring a great bond between the service dog and his/her handler. We also teach the handler a variety of life skills through the lens of dog training, resulting in an independent pair ready to take on the world. Both programs are closely intertwined with the daily responsibilities of Lead the Way and are staffed by Lead the Way trainers, but the focus of K-9 Connection is building bonds, forming families, and perfecting packs - encouraging interspecies understanding through mutually beneficial partnerships.

HELP OUR BRAVE MAYA KEEP HER SPARKLE!✨💖

Maya, our beautiful golden girl and K-9 Connection sponsored Ruff Lifer spent 7+ years in foster care. She now lives out her golden years with her forever foster mom, Dawn, where she is cherished 💕exactly as she deserves. Maya just celebrated her 12th birthday, 🎉 🎈 but her journey isn’t over yet… 💪🏽

Unfortunately, Maya needs surgery to remove concerning masses and determine what we’re up against. As a K-9 Connection "Ruff Lifer," we are committed to her care, but we need our village to help us get her through this. ❤️‍🩹 Maya’s surgery estimate is $1600. 😱😥

Miss Mollie had her surgery yesterday to remove the screws from her leg. Dr Ting thinks they were likely the culprit which was why her previous ACL surgery never healed. Thanks to everyone that has donated thus far. Mollie sure does appreciate your support!! 🩷🐶🩷🐶🩷🐶🩷🐶🩷🐶🩷🐶

Today’s the big day!!! Mollie’s getting her much anticipated surgery to finally heal her leg after a year long journey. Please help and share for Mollie!! 🙏🏻🐶🙏🏻

Back in August 2024, Mollie, who had been adopted two years prior, was returned to It’s A Ruff Life Rescue. It was revealed that Mollie had some issues with her back leg and knee that required surgery. Upon her return, Mollie underwent surgery to repair her ACL and luxating Patella.

Throughout the past year, Mollie has been a true trooper. Despite having numerous allergies and immune-related side effects, she remains a sweet and affectionate dog. Fortunately, her foster mom agreed to keep her as a permanent resident and has been an advocate for her care, which has included numerous doctor appointments, prescription food, antibiotics, allergy medications, and more.

While Mollie’s knee and leg surgery was a success, complications have arisen from the plate implanted during the surgery. The incision has not healed properly, and it oozes regularly, requiring frequent bandage changes. According to her orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ting, the surgical plates are causing the allergic reaction and need to be removed for a full recovery.

Now that Mollie is under the care of K-9 Connection, we kindly request that you consider making a tax-deductible donation towards her surgery. The estimated cost ranges from $3,050 to $4,334. We understand that Mollie had a supportive community when she was first returned, and we kindly ask that you help her one last time as her journey towards a happy and fulfilling life is almost complete! 🙏🏻
