I have attended Maine coast retreats of the BSOW for over a decade, and find them uniquely spiritually refreshing and renewing. We observe the Benedictine rhythms of quiet time; individual study - reading, journaling; service in the form of simple chores; joining together for daily worship, singing, and sharing of favorite readings; and ample time for recreation or rest. Meals are simple and hearty, and may be adapted to serve individual dietary needs.

The Alcyon Center, on the shore of a salt water inlet of remarkable beauty, provides comfortable private rooms; is accessible; and offers a broad sunny deck, a picturesque walking trails network, a labyrinth, and thoughtfully located outdoor sitting areas with views of the water. Acadia National Park is nearby for exploring during daily personal times.

Retreat participants come from throughout New England, and beyond. They include church pastors, chaplains serving in a variety of settings,
and those in music ministry. Many return, year after year, after attending their first retreat - that is what happened for me!

I was in a nursing home this afternoon visiting with a dear friend, when I received a quite unexpected and most welcome phone call from Brother Julian! Following, as it did, up on several announcements of this season's retreats, and some encouraging words from brother Bill, I was reminded in a very poignant way of how we are called to care for one another. it may be face to face it may be in prayer or in service to others, but it is our common commitment. Thank you, brother Julian, and every other brother and sister for your prayers your thoughts and your presence in my life. T he Saturday of Easter weekend will mark my 90th year, and I thank God for the miles we have walked together. Grace, mercy and peace. - Brother James O'Brien

BSOW is the host of an array of retreats. Making an annual retreat in person or virtually is a primary goal. Even more we invite fellow clergy to a community of fellow searchers committerd to regular times of silence, service, spiritual reading, mutual prayer, opening to nature and to the Divine, laughing, singing, savoring food, sharing work together...

Gathering in a retreat is foundational, and the rest of our house is built by practicing our covenant: Monthly Mini-Retreats on a Monday and Thursday morning, Daily Fellowship of Prayer. Every day we pray for our Sisters & Brothers in ministry. Weekly Compassionate Service and monthly Silent Time. We. set aside at least two consecutive hours for reading, reflection, listening, being. If this pattern speaks to you maybe you will want to know more.

Southern Vermont Retreat:
Christian Clergy in the northeast are making reservations now for the annual retreat in Pownal, VT, on June 1-5. Led by the Rev. Bro Bill Hamilton, the Brothers and Sisters of the Way retreat offers a three-day time of renewal guided by a daily plan based on monastic practice. Each day we savor two different hours of listening to a reading from inspiring spiritual leaders, two hours of silence, time for singing and music, free time to talk or walk the trails enjoying the surrounding beautiful countryside or boat on the lake. We find nourishment in the companionship of clergy friends new and old, meals we make together, and communion at the end of each day. A secluded lean-to with lake shore dock is available for those wanting to camp. To learn more or to register, email Rev. Bro. David Andrews [email protected]. The entire first time cost is only $50.
