On October 15, families and communities around the world will join the Wave of Light in remembrance of babies lost during pregnancy or infancy.

At 7:00 p.m. local time, light a candle and let it shine for at least one hour. As candles are lit across time zones, they create a continuous wave of light around the world—a visible reminder that every baby is remembered and no family is alone.

A burial grant cannot take away grief—but it can ease one urgent burden.

After a pregnancy or infant loss, families are often asked to make difficult decisions while carrying unimaginable heartbreak. Funeral and burial expenses should not be one more burden a family has to face alone.

Through the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and community, Luna Babies provides burial-expense grants for eligible families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss.

Each grant represents more than financial assistance. It represents a community saying:

“Your baby matters.”
“Your family matters.”
“You do not have to carry this alone.”

Because of supporters like you, Luna Babies can help families focus on loving, remembering, and honoring their baby during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

On October 15, the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge will shine pink and blue in remembrance of babies lost during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy.

Join Luna Babies for a community walk across the bridge at 7:00 p.m. as we take part in the International Wave of Light—a time to honor the babies we carry in our hearts and stand beside the families who love them.

Support after loss can be practical, emotional, and ongoing.

After a pregnancy or infant loss, there is no single type of support that makes everything easier. Families may need space to grieve, someone to listen, help with daily responsibilities, trusted resources, or assistance with unexpected funeral and burial expenses.

Support can look like:

💜 Listening without trying to fix the grief
💜 Saying a baby’s name and remembering important dates
💜 Sending a simple message: “I’m thinking of you”
💜 Bringing a meal, helping with errands, or caring for older children
💜 Connecting a family with a support group, counselor, or grief resource
💜 Offering help with funeral or burial expenses

At Luna Babies, we provide burial-expense grants for families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. Our goal is to ease one immediate financial burden so families have more room to focus on loving, remembering, and honoring their baby.

There is no “right” way to grieve a pregnancy or infant loss.

Grief may look like tears, silence, anger, exhaustion, numbness, longing, love, or moments of feeling okay followed by moments that feel impossibly heavy again.

It may come in waves. It may change over time. It may show up on birthdays, due dates, holidays, anniversaries, in ordinary moments, or without warning.

Some parents want to say their baby’s name and share their story. Others may hold their memories quietly. Some families want company; others need space. All of these experiences are valid.

There is no timeline for grief. There is no single path through loss.

The most meaningful thing we can offer grieving families is often patience, presence, and permission to feel exactly what they feel.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

This month, Luna Babies honors babies who were loved deeply and lost too soon. We recognize the parents, siblings, grandparents, relatives, and friends who carry their love and memory every day.

Pregnancy and infant loss can bring profound grief, difficult decisions, and needs that often continue long after others may expect a family to “move forward.” Every loss is different. Every baby matters. Every family deserves compassion, support, and space to remember.

Luna Babies provides burial-expense grants for eligible families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. While no grant can take away the heartbreak of loss, practical support can ease one immediate financial burden during an incredibly difficult time.

Throughout October, we will share remembrance opportunities, supportive resources, safe-sleep education, and ways our Nebraska community can show up for grieving families.

As NICU Awareness Month comes to a close, we pause to honor every baby, every family, and every care team touched by the NICU.

Throughout September, we have made space for the many experiences a NICU journey can hold: hope, fear, strength, uncertainty, milestones, grief, and deep love.

We honor babies who spent time in the NICU. We recognize parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, and loved ones who walked beside them. We thank the nurses, providers, social workers, therapists, chaplains, and every team member who brings skill and compassion to families each day.

We also remember babies who did not get to go home—and the families who carry their love and memory always.

Luna Babies remains here for eligible families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss by providing financial grants for burial expenses. If you need support, know a family who may, or work with families after loss, we invite you to connect with us.

NICU care is never carried by one person alone. It takes a dedicated team working around the clock to care for babies and to support the families who love them.

Today, we recognize the many people who help make a difference in the NICU:

💚 NICU nurses and nurse leaders
💚 Respiratory therapists
💚 Social workers and bereavement coordinators
💚 Occupational, physical, and speech therapists
💚 Lactation consultants and dietitians
💚 Pharmacists and laboratory teams
💚 Chaplains and spiritual-care providers
💚 Child life specialists and family-support staff
💚 Unit coordinators, environmental services, and every behind-the-scenes team member
