Attention all local departments!!!
If you are interested in getting your wildland firefighter type II, you can join us for our field day on September 6th, 2026. It starts at 9:00 and can run until 1700. If you are interested you start with signing up on this website.

Take these classes in this order: S-190, L-180, and then the online portion of S-130. You will also have to have ICS 100, 700, and 800. These can be taken on the FEMA Website.

Well we just had a crazy evening with this little storm that blew through!!!
We had a request for traffic control at a car wreck east of Vera. Could not make it because shortly after we had a call to help King county with a possible lightning fire. About 3 minutes after the first unit arrived on that fire, Knox city fire department got paged to go to Gilliland in our district for another possible lightning fire. Mind you this was shortly after Knox city had just got back from a fire in Haskell county. We were able to reroute resources to go help with that. Thankfully Game Warden Larry Hampel went out to spot it for the responding Departments. They did a thorough search and could not find anything. King county fire department arrived on their scene and I was able to head back. So all units made it back to their respective stations safe and sound. I personally could not see them but I know the knox county sheriffs office was running around helping where they were needed most!
So huge shout out to Knox City Volunteer Fire Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office , and the game wardens office.

We had a great drop tank and drafting tank training on Monday. Got interrupted by a small ditch fire though.
