This funding gap is stifling the potential of our local nonprofits, which are critical to the health and well-being of our community. It’s time to take action—and we need your support!

Interested in lending a hand and helping to clean-up our historic Benicia City Cemetery?

Benicians Adopting Benicia, (BAB) part of the Benicia Community Foundation, Inc. (BCF) is sponsoring a much-needed City Cemetery clean-up with the support and supervision from the City Public Works Department.
The clean-up will consist of light to moderate landscaping clean-up of the Cemetery, mostly light raking, removing small fallen branches and tree bark as well as w**d removal.
According to Kristine Passalacqua, Vice Chair of the BCF Board, and chair of BAB “The group Benicians Adopting Benicia was created to bring community volunteers together to assist in the care and maintenance of our many city parks and other sites. This is a very exciting project for us. The Cemetery is so full of history, and this is an opportunity to help improve this historic site. The foundation is dedicated to supporting the community by strengthening its economic vitality, enhancing beautification and building community camaraderie.”

Refreshments: We’re providing lunch, snacks, and bottled water. You’re always welcome to bring additional non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. If you plan on sitting, bring a chair.
Date: May 11,2024
Time: We will open registration at 8:00am, work starts at 8:30 and plan on finishing around 1-2 pm, including a supplied lunch. Or come join us when you can and help for as long as you can.
Where: City Cemetery. 150 Riverhill Dr, Benicia
What to wear: sturdy, closed toe shoes, long sleeve shirt and long pants, a hat and sunglasses are suggested
What to bring: gardening gloves, and if you have a rake, shovel, pitchfork, wheelbarrow or an old tarp or two are all great. (Please be sure your name is on your tools)
What not to bring: no power tools of any kind
What to expect: Please Park down on Riverhill. We will shuttle you up to the cemetery. A table will be set up in the parking lot at the top of the cemetery for check-in.
The BCF and the City are providing liability and photo release forms to be signed for all participants.
A City representative will go over the clean-up that is needed. We will divide into small teams and areas for the clean-up. If you are limited on what you can do, please let us know so we can keep you in your comfort zone. Also, there are areas that are sloped and consist of uneven terrain.
The city will provide ADA compliant portable restroom.
