GRIEF DEFINED FROM A BEREAVED MOM
People think grief is crying.
But as a mother who has lost her son, I can tell you it’s so much more than tears.
It’s waking up every day knowing the child you raised & loved isn’t here anymore, and somehow still being expected to keep going.
It’s being irritated by everyone and everything—not because you’re angry at the world, but because your heart is carrying a pain that never takes a day off.
It’s noises feeling too loud. Simple questions feeling overwhelming. People needing something from you when you have absolutely nothing left to give.
It’s snapping over something small, then sitting alone wondering, “Who have I become?”
It’s your body and soul begging the world to just leave you alone for a while because every ounce of your strength is being used just to survive another day without your child.
People see you standing. They see you working. They see you smiling once in a while. What they don’t see is the mother whose heart was buried with her son.
Grief isn’t just sadness. It’s exhaustion. It’s loneliness. It’s anger. It’s love with nowhere to go!!
The hardest part isn’t that I cry. The hardest part is learning how to live in a world where my son no longer does.
If I seem different, it’s because I am. A part of me left with him, and that part is never coming back.
So if you know a grieving parent, please be patient. We aren’t choosing to be this way. We’re simply trying to survive unimaginable pain while carrying a love that death could never take away...

For our founder, Justine, finding connection through readings has provided a welcome sense of hope and light. But, as anyone walking this path knows, those moments don't magically erase the dark, heavy reality of grief. Both truths exist together.

Grief isn’t about fixing the pain; it’s about finding the gentle anchors that help us carry it. This month, Justine has been sharing some of her anchors.

We know that everyone’s grief journey is completely unique, especially when it comes to discovering pieces of hope or comfort in the midst of loss.

💬 If you feel comfortable sharing, what is something (a book, a poem, a routine, or a memory) that has brought a little bit of light to your path lately?

In a small town, we look out for our neighbors. But when a tragic loss occurs, it leaves a quiet, isolating void that can be incredibly heavy to carry alone.

At In Harmony Foundation, we believe the body remembers how to heal when surrounded by community care. But healing from this level of trauma is brutally expensive, and finding trusted, trauma-informed support can be incredibly difficult for families navigating the financial and emotional aftermath of a gun violence loss.

We want to change that and we cannot do it without our local network.

We are actively looking for Community Partners and wellness providers to partner with us.

If you are a therapist, massage practitioner, yoga teacher, or healing arts professional in our community, we invite you to join our provider network. By partnering with us, you help open a vital door of healing for a neighbor who needs it most. In return, our foundation is deeply committed to uplifting you and ensuring your practice is highlighted across our community, connecting you with meaningful work, and introducing your services to a lifelong network of supporters.

Whether you are a practitioner looking to offer your skills, a local business wanting to sponsor the cost of a class, or a neighbor looking to volunteer, there is a place for you here.

Take a scroll through the slides to see the programs we currently offer and are launching in our community.

If your heart aligns with our mission, tap the link in our bio to become a Community Partner, join our Provider Network, or donate today.

Thank you for standing with us, and for helping us wrap our neighbors in the compassion they deserve. 🤍
