Ready to spark your next story? ✨

Join us our next meeting on May 12: "The Kick-Off: Exploring Inciting Incidents" with Eileen Sather—an engaging session all about the moment that changes everything in a narrative. We’ll dive into examples from film, fiction, and creative nonfiction, then put ideas into action with a guided prompt to jump-start something new (or reimagine a work in progress).

Our March meeting takes place Tuesday, March 10 from 5:30–7:30 PM at Central Oregon Community College (Cascades Hall, rooms 247–248). This month’s presentation, “Write Like the Romans: Using the Ancient Forms of Ekphrasis and Prosopopoeia to Explore Character and Setting,” will be led by Kristin Dorsey. Together we’ll explore how these ancient techniques can inspire new approaches to character, tone, and setting through generative writing exercises. (centraloregonwritersguild.com)

Join the Central Oregon Writers Guild on March 10 from 5:30–7 PM at COCC (Cascades Hall, rooms 247/248) for an inspiring craft talk with Kristin Dorsey. ✍️

In this talk, we’ll explore two ancient techniques— (writing inspired by art and vivid description) and Prosopopoeia (imitation and personification)—and how they can help writers create richer character, setting, and tone. Through generative exercises and discussion, you’ll experiment with these timeless strategies and discover new ways to bring depth to your work.

Kristin Dorsey is an Associate Professor in Humanities at who teaches writing workshops throughout the region and serves as the featured writing instructor for the Pacific Northwest Pen Show. Her own work focuses on hybrid and .
