Middle School Girls Wrestling Update: There are some exciting changes potentially coming to middle school girls wrestling this season.
Based on what we are hearing, Bend-La Pine has approved a separate girls wrestling season from the boys. If everything stays on track, registration could open mid-September, with a tentative practice start date of November 2.
The tentative schedule we are hearing is:
Registration: Mid-September
Practice begins: November 2
State Qualifier: December 12
State Championships: December 19
Please keep in mind that these dates and details are still tentative and we are waiting for official confirmation.
The goal behind separating the season is to continue growing girls wrestling and create more opportunities for girls to get involved in the sport. One of the goals being discussed is having a minimum of 10 girls participating from each middle school.
That starts with getting more girls through the door and giving them an opportunity to try wrestling in an environment where they can learn, compete, build confidence, and be part of a team.
If your daughter has ever thought about wrestling, or you've wondered if wrestling might be a good fit for her, this could be a great season to give it a try. No prior wrestling experience is necessary.
