COSA is a nonprofit organization founded to promote, educate and motivate members to write, market and improve their skills as songwriters. MONTHLY SONGWRITER MEETINGS

We meet on the last Sunday of every month at Dudley's Bookshop Cafe located at 135 NW Minnesota Ave. i

n Bend, Oregon. 2:00 PM till 5:00 PM. Anyone interested in songwriting is welcome to attend. At one of our meetings you will find a varied group of songwriters ranging from beginners to experienced professionals. The thread that binds us together is the common love of music and lyrics. All styles of songs are welcome at COSA. You may hear country, hard rock, soft rock, pop, blues, children's music, religious songs, instrumentals or anything else someone brings in at one of our meetings. We have contact info for publishing, copyrighting, collaboration and studio / demo services. Our meeting activities include guest lecturers, workshops, current musical events and group discussions. At each meeting we also have a Song-of-the-Month contest. Members listen to entries (supplied in CD format) and vote for their favorite song. Winners receive a certificate of achievement and their song gets a free entry into our Song-of-the-Year contest. The song will also be played on KPOV.FM courtesy of Rick Miller and the Center Stage radio program. Browse our site to find additional information including our annual Song-of-the-Year Awards and Presentation show, gig alerts, news, music, links and more.

This month, May 26th our guest speaker will be Cathy Po***ck M.AmSAT teacher of the Alexander technique~!

1) Music-making is an activity that requires both physical and mental coordination.

2) The human body has the capacity to perform complex and repetitious movements such as those needed to sing or play an instrument.

Given the fact that the body is designed to carry out movements efficiently, why then do people experience pain, discomfort or other difficulty while performing certain activities? Just as the human body can tolerate poor diet and exercise habits, it can also tolerate poor muscle tone and excess tension, but there is often a price to pay.

When we learn a new skill, we often bring to it our own particular habits which may involve unnecessary tension. These underlying habits may interfere with ease and performance. The Alexander Technique teaches musicians to identify and eliminate the harmful habits and to replace them with a more refined sensory awareness which leads to better, more enjoyable playing or singing.

The 2012 COSA Song of the Year Winner! Congratulations Mike Biggers!
