The DTC Trail Crew officially kicked off the season on May 11 and has already been hard at work maintaining our public lands!

⚒️The crew spent the first week completing saw certifications and recertifications before completing full logouts on Lemish Lake, Ray Atkeson, Paulina Lake Loop, and portions of Charlton and Black Crater trails.

🌧️ In addition to clearing downed trees, the crew has also prioritized cleaning drainage features whenever time allows to help improve long-term trail conditions.

⛓️An early IFPL restriction has impacted chainsaw operations, but the crew has remained flexible and adaptable switching to crosscut saws when needed and shifting focus to tread and drainage work to keep trails in great shape for the season!

In 2025, we won a Bend Sustainability Fund Grant to build and install new, permanent docks at Cultus and Paulina lakes to increase accessibility and safety for these popular zones.

🎣 This year long process of designing, building and installing the docks finally wrapped up just in time for summer and we couldn't be happier with how they turned out 😍😍

It is with extremely deep sadness that we reflect on the loss of our dear friend, Tom Lomax. Tom was an incredible force of a human and fierce advocate for trails in Central Oregon. He gave thousands and thousands of hours to countless trail projects and there is a good chance if you ride a trail anywhere in Central Oregon, Tom has some sort of hand in it. Recently he was a force for the North Fork Rock project which will dramatically expand recreation options in South East Bend creating more equitable access to trails for all, which was one of Tom's biggest passions.

Not only was Tom an unbelievably dedicated and driven volunteer and trail steward, he was a joy to be around. His larger than life laugh and spark of enthusiasm made him an absolute fun magnet. He was always out riding his bike, having as much fun as possible and everyone always wanted to be around him.

People like Tom come around once in a lifetime and we are incredibly fortunate and grateful that we were able to bask in his glow for the time we had. He will be deeply missed and his loss will be felt for many many years to come.

So cheers to Tom, enjoy a cold beer, think of him while you're out on the trails and keep smiling, it's what he would've wanted 💚

Tom's family has asked, instead of flowers, etc. to donate to where he gave an incredible amount of his life to make beautiful trails.
