High Desert Food and Farm Alliance Programs:

Grow and Give- HDFFA's fresh food drive the only program of its kind in Central Oregon. Fresh food donations from local farmers, gardeners, and community members are donated to our regional food bank, NeighborImpact, and distributed to hunger relief agencies throughout Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook Counties. VeggieRx- A fresh produce prescription pr

ogram that improves healthy eating habits for individuals experiencing food insecurity and diagnosed with diet-modifiable disease. Participants receive fresh vegetables and fruits, nutrition education, and one-on-one support from HDFFA Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist. Agricultural SUpport- HDFFA partners with OSU Extension Small Farms Program, Oregon Tilth, the Oregon Department of Agriculture, and others to coordinate workshops and hands-on training opportunities for farmers to sharpen their skills on everything from crop planning, to marketing strategies to food safety. We also seek funds to pass through to support farmers with infrastructure needs such as hoop and greenhouses. Food & Farm Directory - a 48 page resource for finding locally grown, raised and crafted food products. Visit GETATASTE.ORG to find local food and download the GET A TASTE APP for apple and driod. Fresh Harvest Kits- Fresh Harvest Kits are ready-to-make meal kits containing pantry staple items (pasta, tuna, stew), farm fresh vegetables (kale, carrots), Savory Spice (a spice pack) and a recipe card to create a nutritious and delicious meal. HDFFA collaborates with local farms and hunger relief agencies to offer these kits at local food pantries.

We were so thrilled to welcome Roots at Heart Nutrition to the Northwest Crossing
Farmers Market last Saturday! Mayra and Oscar are a husband-and-wife team from right here in Bend — Mayra is a Board-Certified Holistic Nutritionist and Oscar brings over 19 years of culinary experience. They stopped by HDFFA’s booth to celebrate the start of our Central Oregon growing season with a fresh Farmers Market Salad, built entirely from what’s coming up right now from our local fields — crisp, vibrant, and rooted in what this land grows best.
When you shop local, you’re getting produce at its freshest and most nutritious — and Roots at Heart is here to show you just how good that can taste.
We’re so proud to have them as part of our farmers market community. Stay tuned — more tastings are coming all season long!

At the June 10th Bend Farmers Market, HDFFA hosted chefs from regional food truck and restaurant businesses to discuss the challenges and opportunities of sourcing local ingredients.

Our goal is to help build stronger connections and strengthen the relationship between local farmers, ranchers and restaurants.

Additionally, we provided one-time funds to each participating business to purchase ingredients from local farms at the market. Thank you to The Bleu Rooster, Farmers Deli, Dear Irene, Bob’s Electric Food Truck, and all the Farmers Market vendors for your contributions!
