Parent-child separation in family courts affects all jurisdictions, demographics, and political affiliations. Oregon NPO welcomes ongoing discussions with candidates and incumbents on this nonpartisan issue. We will post meeting notes here. Reminder to legislators: YOU represent your citizens, whereas over three-fourths of family judges are appointed.

Oregon Judicial Department placed Judge Bennett on administrative leave for comments at a social event earlier this month. NPO’s questions are:

1. Since this occurred during an annual conference for family judges, should OJD reassess their trauma-informed curriculum?

2. If comments after-hours result in an immediate investigation, do the same standards apply to judges who make biased, demeaning, or non-lawful statements on the record from the bench?

We appreciate ongoing dialogue with OJD through our legislative workgroup.

Sergeant First Class JWM had been deployed to combat for more cumulative time than I had been in the Army. He was an expert mountaineer, a specialized medic, and a father. He was my friend. He stayed behind during our last deployment to repair his marriage, not knowing that it was already too late. He sometimes slept in the aid station to avoid new accusations. In a matter of months, he lost his marriage, his home, and any contact with his children. On June 12, 2018 he lost his life to . Oregon NPO honors those patriots who died from the battle within. You are gone but not forgotten.
