We are honored to feature two extraordinary storytellers whose performances alone make this event worth attending:
โข Mr. Wallace C. Moore, appearing in full period attire, will deliver a powerful historical interpretation that brings the past to life with depth, accuracy, and emotion.
โข Ms. Beeri โBeFreeโ Ahli, portraying Creek Freedwoman Lucinda Davis, will offer a moving storytelling experience that brings the past to life, capturing the voice and spirit of one of our most important historical figures. Both Moore and Beeri are outstanding storytellers, and attendees are truly in for a treat.
Our program continues with an exceptional lineup:
โข Civil rights legend Mr. Jahruba Lambeth will share reflections rooted in decades of community advocacy through his African drumming with Native highlights, creating a cultural bridge that honors our shared histories.
โข Washington Rucker, famed musician and descendant of Ketch Barnett, will speak about his family history, sharing stories that connect our present gathering to the legacy of our ancestors.
โข Ms. E. Ann GainesโAli will lift our spirits and ground us in tradition with a powerful old spiritual that carries the voices of our ancestors forward.
โข A legal panel will address questions about the recent citizenship ruling. This confirmed panel will feature:
Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons and Attorney Jana Knott, who will provide clarity, context, and insight into the ruling and its impact on Muscogee Creek Freedmen descendants.
In addition, Brittany Postoak and Amy Warne, both enrolled Muscogee citizens and long time advocates, will offer words of expression and speak about their own family histories and connections to this moment.
โข Rev. Christine Byrd will open the event with a few words and prayer.
We will also feature:
โข A Photo Fun Booth
โข A Storytelling Booth for sharing family memories. Our award winning documentary team will be on site interviewing and capturing the moments of this event!
โข A Genealogy Booth with hands on support from Mr. Ron Graham
โข Activities for young people
โข Free food
โข Hourly raffle headed by Mrs. Peggy Ford
We encourage everyone to bring family photographs so we can add them to the museum collection and future exhibits. A dedicated history booth will be available for oral story sharing.
We are thrilled to unveil our newest exhibit, supported in part by the Civil Rights Trail Grant administered by the Oklahoma Historical Society. This exhibit honors leaders of the past and present and includes:
โข A quilt honoring Creek Freedwoman Dolly Stidham, created by Mrs. Beverly Kirk, a recreation of the quilt draped around her body in the historic photograph taken in the 1930s
โข Several original oil paintings created by Johnny Montgomery
โข Sculptural tributes to Harry Island, Mikko Cow Tom, and Ketch Barnett, created by artist LaQuincey Reed
This event is shaping up to be a powerful celebration of heritage, community, and shared history. More information is coming soon.
