Out of the Hat is back!!!
Bemidji Community Theater will present “Out of the Hat” on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at 7 pm. Tickets are $10, at the door.
“Out of the Hat” is a part scripted and part improv performance. It involves 5 writers, 5 directors, and a bunch of actors. On Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at 7 pm, everyone meets at the theater and fills out four slips. One is a location, one is an object, one is the first line of the skit, and one is how many actors are involved. Then each writer draws a slip from each hat and goes home to write a 10 to 15 minute skit. They must send it to BCT before 7 am Saturday. Saturday morning at 8 am, the directors and actors will meet at the theater. The directors will draw which skit they will direct and who their actors will be. They then rehearse until about 4:30, when there will be a dress rehearsal on stage. The performance will begin at 7 pm for the public.
It is part madness, part chaos, and all fun. Come join us.

➡️ Auditions are set for August 26th & 27th from 6-8pm here at BCT.

Actors ages 16+ should prepare a one minute monologue and 16 measures of acapella music

✨ Can we talk about the LIGHTING?! ✨

Meet Alyssa! She is the lighting designer for The Cover of Life!!

Talented actors can tell a story—but the right lighting makes you feel it.

A huge shoutout to the amazing lighting designer behind The Cover of Life. From the warm glow of a Louisiana afternoon to the quiet, emotional moments when the stage seems to hold its breath, every lighting choice (93 of them to be exact!) adds another layer to this story.

Lighting design is one of those things that, when it’s done really well, you almost forget it’s happening. You just know the moment feels different. ❤️

We are incredibly lucky to have someone who understands that lighting isn’t just about making sure you can see the actors—it’s about helping tell the story.

👏 Bravo to the person behind the board, making us all look good…literally.
