Support Our Mission: https://gofund.me/dab26645
Boozhoo gakina awiya!
Many of you have seen our semi-cryptic hints at a large development in the works. With the majority of paperwork in, we can officially say that we are creating an offshoot branch known as “The Phoenix Collective”, which is applying for status as a nonprofit organization under tax code 501(c)(4). This decision has been years in the making, with countless hours of coordination and careful preparation. And while there are several factors that contributed to this decision, our primary motivation is the ability to expand our services community wide. These services include, but are not limited to: mutual aid networking, volunteer coordination, allyship training, resource mapping, matching and allocation, community-based education opportunities, interpersonal and interorganizational advocacy and so much more.
We are Q***r and White Earth descendent run, with strong commitments to community, decolonization, antiracism, anticolonialism, equitable and best practice. It is our goal to honor our roots and community through active advocacy as an official nonprofit operating under the 501(c)(4) tax code.
To obtain our tax-exempt status, which is necessary for many of the grants applicable to our mission, we must apply through the IRS for recognition, a process that costs $600 and is unobtainable without active, consistent fundraising. We are reaching out for any assistance we can obtain through crowdfunding.
We are eternally grateful for any support you can grant us, be it financial, or a kind word. Miigwetch for all of your time and patience as we move through the finalizing steps of this process.
FAQ:
“What will this mean for the Phoenix at BSU?”
The Phoenix Collective (TPC) will not replace The Phoenix of BSU, and will instead work side by side with them on efforts moving forward, providing resources as available.
“What sort of projects do you see in the future of TPC?”
Some of our plans include expanding our chest-binder drive in partnership with GC2B, Increased scope and availability of allyship training by a team of trained individuals, Hosting mutual aid focused events to provide resources to underserved communities, volunteer programs at various locations throughout Northern Minnesota and beyond, As for long term goals, we dream of a housing project for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals who have faced hardship.
