Great River Rescue Great River Rescue is a companion animal shelter and low-cost spay/neuter program in Bemidji, MN.

Great River Rescue houses adoptable dogs and cats until a suitable forever home can be found. The shelter provides quality care the animals, spays and neuters all animals, and helps educate the public on pet care. The shelter is funded by community donations, and service fees.

Mama Trout and her five kittens have returned to the shelter from their foster home, and are now ready to be adopted. The kittens - Pike, Salmon, Sardine, Sturgeon, and Walleye - were born July 29, and they have been loved on and coddled since they were born. Sturgeon is the only male, and he is the smallest of this litter, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in personality! He loves to run to greet people and launches himself at them! Pike is all black, so she is not available during the month of October.

We had so many wonderful adoptions this week. Wobbles - the last of that litter of puppies, George - the last of that litter of kittens, Sugar, Florence, Jalapeno, and Habanero have all joined their families, and we are extremely happy for everyone. Thank you for adopting, and we wish you all many years of happiness and unconditional love together 💚💙

We’re excited to be hosting our annual Howl-o-ween Walk again this year on Saturday, October 24th! The spookiest part? This year, this event will be bigger and better than ever! We will have vendor booths such as vet clinics, groomers, dog trainers, and other pet related organizations!

So stop on by with your four-legged best friend, wear costumes, and win cool prizes!🧡

🎃 Where: Great River Rescue, 1612 Carr Lake Rd SE, Bemidji MN 56601. In our fabulous new 2 acre dog run!
🦇 When: Saturday, October 24th, from 4-6:30pm.
🎃 $5 per person, dogs free!

We had another fantastic Pet Fixers Clinic this past weekend. A total of 67 surgeries were done, 21 neutered and 21 spayed cats, and 13 neutered and 12 spayed dogs!

Thank you to the vet team who drove hours to spend the weekend working hard serving our community, Dr. Paul Anderson, Alyssa Dehne, Amber Portillo, and Kevin Markin.

Thank you to the volunteers who gave up their weekend to love and care for all the pets during their time with us, Destini Allwine, Daniel Domeier, Heidi Johnson, Joli Moussa, Allison Noe, Candice Pflepsen, Kelly Reid, Jessica Riley, Jaimee Towers, Sam Westerman, and Gloria Wu.

What’s better than one cat? Two!😻 Tiny & King are a bonded pair that can’t wait to be adopted together. Once they’re comfortable with new people, these two blossom into super affectionate and sweet kitties. They love treats (Churu are their fav), snuggles, and catnip.
