Celebrating our last performance of “The Miracle Worker” with the Belvidere Lions Club as they kick off their 75th anniversary year in 2027!

Helen Keller challenged the Lions Club to become her “Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness,” as our team tells the story of Helen and Annie, we were glad to partner to celebrate the resilience of the human spirit and those who champion each other.

Country Gate Players is honored to partner with the Belvidere Lions Club in anticipation of the club’s 75th anniversary. Inspired by Helen Keller’s historic 1925 call for Lions to become “Knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness,” Lions Clubs worldwide have long supported individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

In celebration of this partnership, audiences are invited to a special Pre-Show Champagne Reception on Sunday, April 26, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, presented by the Belvidere Lions Club. Reception tickets are $40 and include admission to the performance.

A profound sense of loss is felt today at the Country Gate Playhouse as we share the passing of one of our most devoted and cherished members, Frank Delmore.

Frank was a cornerstone of our community theatre for nearly five decades, beginning with his appearance in "The Rainmaker" in the late 1970s. From that moment on, he became an enduring presence on our stage, contributing to countless productions—from "Fiddler on the Roof" to "Inherit the Wind"—and leaving a lasting impression on audiences and fellow performers alike.

Country Gate was also where Frank built a beautiful family legacy. It was here he met his late wife, Gina, and where he later shared the stage with his children, Marisa and Cullen—moments that meant so much to him and to all of us who witnessed them.

Beyond his performances, Frank’s dedication behind the scenes was just as remarkable. Whether working quietly to solve a problem or ensuring everything ran as it should, he gave his time, energy, and heart to this theatre in ways too numerous to count.

Frank’s presence, generosity, and steady spirit helped shape Country Gate into what it is today. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Marisa, Cullen, Gina, Lochlan, and Calder.

Frank will remain forever a part of Country Gate—and forever in our hearts.

Step Inside the Breakthrough: Country Gate Players Presents "The Miracle Worker"

Belvidere, NJ — What does it take to reach a child locked in silence?
Country Gate Players invites audiences to explore that question with its upcoming production of William Gibson’s The Miracle Worker, opening April 18 at the Country Gate Playhouse.

At the center of this powerful story are Helen Keller and her teacher, Annie Sullivan. Sophie Rivera takes on the role of Helen, portraying a child navigating a world she cannot see or hear, yet driven by an intense desire to understand and connect. Opposite her, Autumn Menza appears as Annie Sullivan, a determined young teacher whose persistence and belief challenge both Helen and the Keller family. Their relationship unfolds as a complex and often turbulent journey—one marked by struggle, discovery, and change.

The Keller family is brought to life by Katie Smith as Kate Keller, a mother guided by compassion and hope, and David Gross as Captain Keller, a father grappling with how best to help his daughter. Hans Howk portrays James Keller, whose perspective reflects both the tensions and realities within the household.

They are joined by a dedicated ensemble—including Colleen Capponi, William Grammes, Cindi Halkola, Grady Morgan, Rosalie Loro, Elijah Puerschner, Jessica Griglak, Sierra Griglak, Briar Howk, and Maria Tucker—helping to shape the environments that influence Helen’s world, from the Keller home to the Perkins Institute.

Directed by Gina Scurato, the production emphasizes the physical and emotional challenges at the heart of the story, inviting audiences to experience the moments of frustration, persistence, and breakthrough alongside the characters.

Directed by Gina Scurato, “The Miracle Worker” tells the extraordinary true story of Helen Keller, a child isolated by blindness and deafness, and Annie Sullivan, the determined young teacher who breaks through that silence. This deeply moving play explores the struggles, setbacks, and triumphs of a family determined to reach their child—and the remarkable bond that transforms them all.

Sophie Rivera portrays Helen Keller, a child whose intelligence and spirit burn beneath a barrier of silence. Her characterization personifies Helen’s explosive frustration and her eventual breakthrough into understanding.

Autumn Menza appears as Annie Sullivan, the fiercely dedicated teacher whose own difficult past fuels her relentless belief in Helen’s potential. Menza applies strength, vulnerability, and grit to the role of the “miracle worker,” whose unconventional methods challenge and ultimately change the Keller family.

Katie Smith portrays Kate Keller, Helen’s devoted mother, whose unwavering hope and compassion drive the effort to reach her daughter. David Gross takes on the role of Captain Arthur Keller, a commanding patriarch whose skepticism and pride clash with Annie’s methods, revealing a man struggling between authority and love. Hans Howk rounds out the Keller family as James Keller, Helen’s half-brother, whose sharp wit and keen observations expose the tensions within the household while hinting at deeper frustrations.

for Country Gate Players’ Summer Youth Performance Workshop. The initiative will culminate with three performances of the Addams Family Musical (Young@Part): July 24 as well as, July 25 & 26@1pm
The workshop is open to young actors, ages 10 to 15. There is no participation fee required. However, it is necessary that cast members provide their own costumes, attend most rehearsals, and attend all performances. Previous theatre experience is helpful but not required.

The Country Gate Performance Workshop will again be facilitated by Bill Scurato and Cailla Minerowicz.

Workshop style auditions will be conducted June 8 and 9 at 6 pm.
Rehearsals will be held: June 16,17,18, 23, 24, 25, 30 from 6 to 8 pm; as well as, July 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, from 6 to 8:30 pm.
All activities will take place at the Country Gate Playhouse, 114 Greenwich Street, Belvidere, New Jersey.
